Stuck on the Loading Screen in Sons of the Forest Fixed

Getting stuck on the loading screen is nothing new for PC gamers and if you are a longtime gamer the chances are you are seeing this for a hundredth time. Nevertheless, there’s no reason to panic as there are some usual fixes that help with these kinds of errors.

The first thing you would want to do is make sure your system and your drivers are up to date (especially graphics drivers). I know this may sound like commonplace advice but sometimes it really does happen that the new driver for your graphics card got released only a couple of hours before you installed the game so your PC didn’t get a chance to automatically install it.

Remove any unknown or unnecessary software. A couple of years ago I had an issue where a small utility software that I accidentally installed along with some larger software was causing issues with my gaming. As soon as I uninstalled it, I stopped having issues with running my games.

Make sure your PC meets the minimum system requirements. Even if it meets 9/10 requirements the chances are that the game won’t work properly so make sure you double-check your hardware.

Disabling Antivirus and Firewall is a common fix that works more often than you would think. Disable them temporarily or add an exception for Sons of the Forest so they don’t block any elements of the game. Furthermore you can right click the game icon and click “run as administrator” to make the game recognize you as an administrator that has all the permissions on the computer.

Clear the Steam cache. In case you’re running the game on Steam, try going to Settings, Download, and Clear Download cache. While at it, you can also verify game files by right-clicking the Sons of the Forest, selecting Properties, clicking on Local files and clicking again on “Verify integrity of game files”.

Wait around a bit. Sometimes we’re just used to having our PC load all the games in 5 seconds and as soon as we don’t have that we think something is wrong. Maybe the Sons of the Forest and all the settings you’ve chosen for it are a big bite for your PC and it needs extra time to process it.

Disable overlays. Many gaming platforms have overlays automatically turned on so you can easily access their services, talk to your friends, etc. However, these can sometimes ruin your gaming experience so make sure you have them turned off when experiencing issues.
