How to Disable Copyrighted Music in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 features quite the sprawling soundtrack, fitting such a massive game. You’ve got techno, rap, techno, dubstep, techno, smooth jazz and, uh… ah, yes, techno. Almost forgot that last one. A lot of this music was actually produced by real musicians, but if you’re a streamer, then that may be more of a minus than a plus for you. Luckily, there is a way to disable copyrighted music in Cyberpunk 2077.

So, for the uninitiated, why would you want to disable the music CDP put so much effort into stacking the game with? Well, if you’re just playing the game for your own sake, you don’t have to. You can listen to all the copyrighted music your little heart desires. If, however, you’re streaming the game on Twitch, Let’s Play-ing it for YouTube, or some other means of mass-broadcasting, these copyrighted songs could trip the DMCA sensors, summoning the copyright angels to deliver their terrible judgment (read: demonetizing or delisting your video/stream).

In a clever bit of foresight, CDP has included a special toggle in the game’s options that will disable all of the copyrighted music in the game, leaving only the royalty-free stuff. Just open the game’s options, go to the Sound menu, and you should see a toggle that reads “disable copyrighted music.” Turn it on, and you’re officially safe from divine wrath. Well, mostly.

According to reports, some streamers have still received copyright claims on their content even with the copyrighted music disabled. CDP recently acknowledged on their Twitter that a probable cause of this is some of the game’s Braindance segments, which feature some copyrighted music they missed when they were putting the disabler together. They’re currently working on a patch to get that music out of there, but for the time being, if you’re streaming Cyberpunk 2077 and are about to begin a Braindance segment, you might wanna mute the music until it’s finished.
