While in Asgard, one of the last quests in the area has you collect two items for Ivaldi, the blacksmith. You must figure out the whereabouts of the items through the quest items in your inventory. One of these quests items is called the root of a mountain, and it’s a long hike to find it. After trekking all that way, you may want to make sure you do things correctly. Here’s how to collect Root of a Mountain and complete Taking Root in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.
The root of a mountain and cat’s footfall are the two items Ivaldi requires to forge the magical cord, Gleipnir. It’s an annoying fetch quest and probably the last thing you want to do in Asgard. Nevertheless, you must complete it, and we’ll show you how to get it done quickly.
How to collect Root of a Mountain in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Open up your inventory and navigate to your bag. Scroll down to the quest items section and locate the item called “Potential at Its Peak.” The riddle reads, “Cradled in rock, at Asgard’s highest height, a seed sleeps in Ymir’s cold grip. Warm it awake, bring it to water, for old bone to sprout with new life.”
You’ll need to head to Asgard’s highest point, which is a mountain to the south. It’s near the Utangard Chasm marker on the map, but you can refer to the image below if you’re unsure of the area. There’s also a video guide at the bottom of this post if you prefer to follow along that way.
Climb to the top of the mountain, and you’ll find the seed next to a haystack. Interact with it by pressing triangle or E. You may recall part of the riddle saying you need to warm it up. Pull out your torch through the radial menu, and throw it at the stack of hay. The hay will engulf in flames and eventually heat the seed.
Next, you need to pick up the seed and throw it off the mountain’s edge into the pool of water below. Aim the seed carefully so that you don’t miss your target.
Dive in after it, and it will be waiting for you on the water’s edge. Pick it up, and you can then bring it to Ivaldi so he can craft your unbreakable cord.
