Your Actions Have Effects

In Chained Echoes — as in life — there are a number of things that can affect our performance. Not a one of us are immortal, nor are we immune to effects from malicious forces. If you’re curious about status effects, resistances, and even what effects you can have on enemies in Chained Echoes, read on.

What are Resistances in Chained Echoes?

If you’re a JRPG veteran, chances are this topic will make perfect sense to you. Essentially, if you or your party members are positively resistant to Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Darkness or Light, incoming attacks in those elements will do less damage. If you or your party members are negatively resistant to those elements, attacks will do more damage. It’s important to keep an eye on these numbers and strategically plan your course. If you don’t, you’ll eventually come across an enemy that is your worst nightmare.

Enemy Debuffs Are Your Friends

In an ideal situation, your enemies are not the only ones who can impart status effects. Some debuffs that you should keep in mind are:

  • Oil, which makes it so that fire does more damage.
  • Dry, which makes it so that water does more damage.
  • Heavy, which makes it so that earth does more damage.
  • Wet, which makes it so that wind does more damage.

It doesn’t hurt to keep all four of these possibilities in mind so that you are prepared in all situations. After all, it’s better to have these abilities and not need them than to need them and not have them.

What Ails Ya?

It’s also important to take note of the variety of status ailments that enemies can impart onto you or your party members. Especially in the case of the Doom ailment, which insta-kills characters within a couple of turns if it’s not reversed. Other ailments to keep an eye out for are Poison, Dark, Paralysis, Toxic (which is similar to poison in nature), and Full Bloom. But, there are many more where those came from, so just keep an eye out for new and troublesome ailments to avoid.
