What is a Dark Shiny Sandwich?

In Scarlet and Violet players have been introduced to a new function of the game in the setting of a Picnic. Here, players can craft their own unique Sandwich recipes which offer temporary Meal Powers. The purpose of these Meal Powers depends solely on the ingredients used in the Sandwich. Depending on the core ingredients of the common items which you can purchase in Paldea will determine the Meal Powers towards the specific Shiny-Type you are hoping to find.

The Scarlet and Violet Meal Powers are:

  • Chance increase – Encountering of Small, Large, Shiny and Titled Pokémon in the wild, the Catching of these wild Pokémon & Pokémon Eggs in the Picnic basket.
  • Bonus increase – Dropped items by both wild and Tera Pokémon & EXP.

Dark Shiny Sandwich Recipes

  • Intermediate Dark Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x1 Smoked Fillet, x1 Salty Herba Mystica, x1 Sweet/Sour/Spicy Herba Mystica.
  • Expert Dark Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x2 Smoked Fillet, x1 Prosciutto, x1 Red Bell Pepper, x1 Yellow Bell Pepper, x1 Green Bell Pepper, x1 Bitter Herba Mystica & x1 Spicy Herba Mystica.

Depending on which Herb you are trying to obtain will determine which Dark Shiny Sandwich Recipe you should make. For players whose luck is more on the side of obtaining Bitter and Spicy Herba Mystica, they should opt for making the Expert Dark Shiny Sandwich. However, as this requires far more ingredients to purchase, we recommend players make the Intermediate Dark Shiny Sandwich Recipe. This will save you time in searching for Herba Mysticas and money when purchasing the ingredients. It is likely that you will need to make multiple sandwiches to encounter the Shiny Dark-Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet. That is if your plan is to catch them all.

The Shiny Sandwich offers the Meal Powers: x3 Sparkling Power, x3 Title Power and x3 Encounter Power. This is guaranteed with every Shiny Sandwich Recipe, no matter the Pokémon-Type. This is guide will specifically show you where to find all the ingredients for making the Intermediate Dark Shiny Sandwich.

Where to Get Smoked Fillet

Smoked Fillet is one of the more expensive ingredients to buy for the Shiny Sandwich Recipes. Because of this, we truly recommend players opt for the Intermediate Recipe when trying to encounter Dark-Type Shiny Pokémon in Paldea. The Smoked Fillet is sold at 330 Pokémon Dollars, its location is only inside the Deli Cioso. This stall is found in the Paldea locations:

  • Mesagoza (central Paldea city, refer to screenshot below for exact location)
  • Porto Marinada (between Asado Desert and West Province Area Two)
  • Artazon

As this is the only common ingredient in the Intermediate sandwich, players can bulk buy this item for encountering Shiny Dark Pokémon and go on the hunt for the Herba Mystica next.

How to Get Herba Mystica

Herba Mysticas are only available for farming in the post-game of Scarlet and Violet. To access this, players must obtain 18 badges. Through the completion of the three questlines: Path of Legends, Starfall Street and Victory Road, and defeating the final Boss located in Area Zero, players will see the game credits. After seeing the credits, the aim is to defeat the Gym Leaders of Victory Road once more and complete the Academy Ace Tournament. With this done, 5-Star Raids will appear around Paldea, changing on the daily. Players must defeat 15 Raids in order to gain access to 6-Star Raids. The Raids are key to completing your Sandwich recipes for the Tera Raid Pokémon can drop Herba Mystica.

The Simple and Intermediate Sandwiches require x1 Salty Herba Mystica. Whilst players have the option to gather Spicy and Sour Herba Mystica to give these magic Herbs a purpose, players should focus on locating all Herb flavours. This gives you option into which recipe to complete. The odds of obtaining Herba Mystica is very small. Starting at 24% in 5-Star and 28% in 6-Star. Because of this, it is important that players know which Tera Pokémon drop Herba Mystica in both 5-Star and 6-Star Raids. These are:

Salty Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Avalugg
  • Blissey
  • Cetitan
  • Corviknight
  • Dondozo
  • Garganacl
  • Hippowdon
  • Orthworm

Sweet Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Blissey
  • Cetitan
  • Dondozo
  • Goodra
  • Slowking
  • Tinkaton

Spicy Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Annihilape
  • Blissey

  • Scizor
  • Salamence
  • Staraptor
  • Tauros
  • Tyranitar

Sour Herba Mystica Raid Pokémon

  • Amoonguss
  • Armarouge
  • Blissey
  • Clawitzer
  • Cetitan
  • Dondozo
  • Glimmora
  • Gardevoir
  • Gengar
  • Magnezone
  • Volcarona

Because of the small chance of obtaining Herba Mystica, we need to target specific Tera Pokémon. These increase the Herba Mystica drop chances to 76% for 5-Star and 83% in 6-Star Raid. These Pokémon can drop all Herba Mystica flavours, however we recommend that players seek out 5-Star Raids with these Pokémon when farming the Herbs. The reason for this is the difficulty difference between the 5- and 6-Star Raids. Unless you have a strong Pokémon Build designed for Raids, players should target 5-Star Tera Pokémon. The Pokémon you need to target for Herba Mystica with high odds are:

5-Star Raid Pokémon

  • Gengar
  • Blissey
  • Glalie
  • Drifblim
  • Amoongus
  • Eelektross
  • Dondozo
  • Palafin
  • Cetitan

6-Star Raid Pokémon

  • Blissey
  • Amoongus
  • Vaporeon
  • Dondozo
  • Farigiraf
  • Cetitan

That is how to make a Dark Shiny Sandwich in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Keep in mind that when farming for these Herbs, players should focus on 5-Star Raids to save time. For those with money to spare as we are in the post-game, players should attempt to make the Expert Dark Shiny Sandwich. Looking for something simple?
