What is a Water Shiny Sandwich?

The Shiny Sandwiches in Scarlet and Violet are used solely in the new Picnic function. The Sandwiches give the players temporary Meal Powers which last for 30-minutes at a time. These Powers increase the catching, encountering and dropped item chances for Shiny Pokémon. Depending on the core common ingredient of the recipe determines the Shiny Pokémon-Type which you are aiming to catch. The game offers pre-made Sandwiches and also the ability to craft your own recipes to boost specific Meal Powers.

The Meal Powers in Scarlet and Violet are:

  • Catching chance increase.
  • Encountering chance increase.
  • EXP increase.
  • Large Pokémon encounter increase.
  • Small Pokémon encounter increase.
  • Titled Pokémon encounter increases.
  • Shiny Pokémon encounter increases.
  • Dropped item increase by Wild Pokémon.
  • Dropped item increase by Tera Raid Pokémon.
  • Increased Pokémon Eggs in Picnic basket.

Water Shiny Sandwich Recipes

  • Simple Water Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x1 Cucumber, x1 Salty Herba Mystica & x1 Spicy Herba Mystica.

  • Expert Water Shiny Sandwich Recipe – x2 Cucumber, x1 Prosciutto, x1 Red Bell Pepper, x1 Green Bell Pepper, x1 Yellow Bell Pepper, x1 Bitter Herba Mystica & x1 Spicy Herba Mystica.

These Water Shiny Sandwiches offer help towards encountering the Shiny Water-Type Pokémon in Mass Outbreaks. Examples of Water Shiny Pokémon are: Gyarados, Golduck, Drednaw and Gastrodon. These Shiny Sandwiches will guarantee Meal Powers of x3 Sparkling Power, x3 Title Power and x3 Encounter Power. We recommend players craft the Intermediate Water Shiny Sandwich Recipe, this will save players the most time and money when buying ingredients and obtaining the necessary Herba Mysticas needed for the recipe.

Where to Get Cucumber

The easiest place to purchase the core ingredient of the Water Shiny Sandwiches, Cucumber is at the Deli Cioso in the central Paldea city of Mesagoza. This is the earliest city where players can purchase the majority of their Sandwich ingredients. Deli Cioso can also be found in Artazon (South Province Area Three) and Porto Marinada (in between Asado Desert and West Province Area Two). The pricing of Cucumber is 130 Pokémon Dollars. This core ingredient can also be bought in Aquiesta Supermarket in the far-east city of Levincia. Cucumber is the ingredient which targets the Water-Type Pokémon, players must buy this to enable the encountering chance increase of Shiny Water Pokémon.

Where to Get Cheese

Similar to Cucumber, Cheese is purchasable in multiple Paldea cities. You can buy Cheese in Mesagoza, this time in the stall called Artisan Bakery. The Bakery is also located in Porto Marinada and the Aquiesta Supermarket. This ingredient costs 120 Pokémon Dollars and is used in both the Intermediate and Expert Water Shiny Sandwich Recipes.

The reason we recommend buying ingredients for the Intermediate recipes and not others is due to the small chance of obtaining specific Herba Mysticas. Below is a screenshot of the Artisan Bakery shop in Mesagoza. Depending on whether you are using the Town Method in a specific city or Picnic Resetting in the Paldea wilderness, you can pick up ingredients for this recipe in the nearby Paldea cities.

How to Get Herba Mystica

In order to obtain the special Herbs needed in the Shiny Sandwich Recipes, players must defeat 15 5-Star Raids. These appear in the Scarlet and Violet post-game. Therefore, players must complete the entirety of Scarlet and Violet, obtaining all 18 badges. In the post-game, players should revisit and defeat the Gym Leaders again, leading to the completion of the Academy Ace Tournament. Upon the defeat of 15 5-Star Raids, players will have access to the 6-Star Tera Pokémon. With access to both 5- and 6- Star Raids, players can obtain Herba Mystica as dropped items from defeating these Tera Pokémon.

In every Shiny Sandwich Recipe, x1 Salty Herba Mystica is needed. Depending on which common ingredients you use for encountering Water Shiny Pokémon will determine what Herba Mystica flavour you need to look for in 5- and 6- Star Raids. The chances of obtaining Herba Mystica vary on the Pokémon in the 5- and 6-Star Raids, with a 24% chance in 5-Star and 28% in 6-Star.
