Are Legendary Pokémon Breedable in Scarlet and Violet?

Unfortunately, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s legendaries, Koraidon and Miraidon, are not breedable. Neither of these Pokémon has a gender and if you look at their Egg Group in their summary, you’ll see that it is “undiscovered”, meaning they cannot be bred (no legendary babies, sorry). Although many people will likely be disappointed by this, it’s important to remember that Koraidon and Miraidon are not this Pokémon generation’s only legendaries.

It’s hard not to notice the giant, glowing purple shrines strewn all about Paldea; it’s even harder to keep your curiosity at bay once you’ve seen them. These giant purple shrines can be unlocked by collecting a handful of stakes (8 stakes must be collected to unlock each shrine) in each region. Once you have the shrine unlocked, you’ll be able to catch (or defeat, if you don’t want to catch it) one of the shrine legendaries. There are four shrine legendaries in this game: Wo-Chien, Chien-Pao, Ting-Lu, and Chi-Yu.

Although these four extra legendaries gave a lot of prospective legendary-breeders hope, it should be noted that these legendary Pokémon are also genderless, and do not have a discovered Egg Group. Because of this, these legendary Pokémon are also almost certainly unbreedable. Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have added new features that have surprised Pokémon fans in many ways already, however; it’s possible that they may add a legendary-breeding feature in the future (though you probably shouldn’t get your hopes up).

You may not be able to breed them, but these six legendary Pokémon are still more than worth the effort of tracking down and catching (especially the shrine legendaries)! If you catch them all (and get the other box legendary via trade), you can have a full team of legendary Pokémon; you’d be unstoppable!
