Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has its own differences between the two versions. From the legendary Pokémon we travel on, to the different evolutionary forms of specific Pokémon and finally with the exclusive Pokémon of each version. Pokémon Scarlet include Larvitar and Stonjourner, both strong Rock-Type Pokémon with great defensive stats. But players looking for a Pokémon that only requires simple levelling up after catching is the Normal-Type Pokémon, Oranguru. Here is where to find Oranguru and tips to catching this Pokémon in version Scarlet.
Where to Find Oranguru in Pokémon Scarlet
Oranguru is a tough Pokémon to locate in Pokémon Scarlet. With a small 10% chance of seeing this Pokémon in Casseroya Lake, players may find better luck in Tagtree Thicket. The areas where this Pokémon can be found are:
- Tagtree Thicket
- Casseroya Lake
- North Province (Area Two)
Tagtree Thicket
Players are most likely to locate Oranguru in Tagtree Thicket, just north of East Province (Area Three) and south of Glaseado Mountain. The Paldea Pokédex states that this Pokémon is often seen in trees, however players can find this Pokémon on the ground by themselves. In this area, Oranguru are typically Level 25-30.
Due to its rarity, players should regularly check this specific area, highlighted above (black circle) by resetting the Pokémon respawn in Tagtree Thicket. To reset, players need to leave this area. You can do this easily by fast travelling to the northern exit of East Province (Area Three). Using Koraidon as a means to travel fast around the wilderness of Paldea.
How to Catch Oranguru
Oranguru is a Normal/Psychic Pokémon. We recommend that players use either a Fighting or Dark-Type Pokémon when attempting to catch Oranguru. Players should also use the False Swipe TM. This can be obtained by catching 30 species of Pokémon, set by the Biology Teacher. After completing this task, the Teacher will offer you False Swipe as the reward. Alternatively, players can craft this TM using 400 League Points, 3 Kricketot Shells and 3 Chewtle Claws. False Swipe will stop the Pokémon you are trying to catch from fainting, leaving the HP at 1.
Oranguru is a great defensive Pokémon to add to your team. As there is no evolution line, players can catch and focus on levelling up Oranguru to Level 50, with stats of 197 HP and 145 Defence. This Pokémon defensive stats are very similar to that of Salamence and Clawitzer in the Pokémon Violet version. But unlike those Pokémon, Oranguru does not have an evolution line. With similar Level 50 stats to Gyarados, Oranguru is a great defensive addition to a team focussed around Normal or Psychic-Type Pokémon.
