Mela is the boss of the Schedar Squad, Team Star’s Fire crew. She may not be as tough as some of the other bosses you’ll face in this game, but she’s definitely not a boss to be underestimated; many people have a hard time beating her on the first try, especially if they’re under-leveled. If you’re struggling to find a good method, keep reading to find out the best way to beat Mela in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet!
How to Beat Mela in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Mela’s Pokemon Torkoal Strengths and Weaknesses
You’d think that because she’s weaker than some of the other bosses in the game, Mela would be easy to beat, but you’d be wrong! Mela’s Pokémon mean business, they’re not going down without putting up a hell of a fight. Mela’s first Pokémon is a female, level 27 Torkoal with the ability Drought. Although Mela’s Torkoal may seem like an indestructible, fiery tank at first, she does have a few weaknesses that you can exploit. Torkoal is a pure Fire-type Pokémon, meaning she’s naturally weak against Ground, Rock, and Water-type moves.
Furthermore, Mela’s Torkoal doesn’t have a very wide move pool, meaning she’s not very effective against any Pokémon that aren’t especially weak to Fire. To defeat Mela’s Torkoal, it’s recommended that you use a Water, Ground, or Rock-type Pokémon (or a Pokémon that knows a few strong Water, Ground, or Rock-type moves) that are at least between levels 25 and 30 (the higher the level, the better the chance you have against Mela). It’s also recommended that you bring Pokémon that aren’t weak to Fire-type moves.
Mela’s Torkoal also knows the move Clear Smog, which is a Poison-type move, so be sure none of your battling Pokémon are weak to Poison as well as Fire.
Schedar Starmobile (Revavroom) Strengths and Weaknesses
Once Mela’s Torkoal has been defeated, however, you’re not done with the battle until you’ve defeated her secret weapon: her car. Mela’s vehicle, the Schedar Starmobile, is actually a new Pokémon called the Revavroom. Revavrooms are Steel/Poison type Pokémon that are even tankier than Torkoals, unfortunately.
Mela’s Level 26 Revavroom hits hard, but thankfully, it has weaknesses that you can exploit, just like Mela’s Torkoal. Because Revevroom is a Steel/Poison-type Pokémon, it’s especially weak against Fire and Ground-type moves. It’s recommended you battle Revavroom with a Fire or Ground-type Pokémon (or a Pokémon that knows strong Ground or Fire-type moves) that is at least between levels 25 through 30. For obvious reasons, you should also be sure to stock up on Burn Heals before you challenge Mela.
