How to Get Animals in Settlement Survival

More animals, more resources.

A large part of humanity’s prosperity is our ability to live and work in relative harmony with the other creatures and critters of the world. We give ’em food and shelter, they give us food and clothing and all that other good stuff. Even on the micro level, within a single settlement, this symbiotic relationship remains steadfast, which is why you want a steady supply of animals. Here’s how to get animals in Settlement Survival.

How to Get Animals in Settlement Survival

A healthy supply of farm animals is a vital component of a healthy, happy settlement in Settlement Survival. Animals provide crafting materials for things like clothes, as well as steadfast supplies of meat to feed your villagers. As long as you remember to consistently breed and care for your animals, you won’t have to worry about going cold or hungry.

You can always check your supply of animals by clicking the Statistics tab in your hotbar, followed by the Seeds and Livestock option. This will give you a readout of all the animals you have in your possession alongside things like crops and blueprints. As for getting new animals, there are three ways you can obtain more animals for your settlement:

  • Manual searching
  • Hunter’s Hut
  • Ferry orders

First and foremost, you can manually search around the perimeter of your settlement to find wild animals. In fact, it wouldn’t hurt to construct your settlement around a herd of wild animals like sheep or cattle for the sake of convenience. As long as you put some food down for them, they won’t run.

Additionally, if you don’t have the time to go searching the perimeter for animals on your own, you can establish a Hunter’s Hut to do it for you. The Hunters of a Hunter’s Hut will explore the local wilderness on their own time, bringing back any food, resources, and animals that they happen to stumble upon. Just remember that they can only walk where walking is an option; if there are rivers or other obstructions in the way, you’ll need to build a pathway for them before they can explore further.

Finally, if you’re drowning in Silver Coins, put some of them to use by placing orders with the local Ferry. Just click the Ferry button on your hotbar, followed by Order and Animals, and you can place an order for whatever kind of livestock you need. This is the fastest and easiest way of getting more animals, which is probably why it’s also the most expensive. A single sheep can run you tens of thousands of Silver Coins, so try to save the ferry for when hunting or exploration would be too slow.

However you go about doing it, make sure you have a healthy supply of various kinds of livestock at any given time. It’s with their help that your settlement will truly prosper.
