Is Monster Roadtrip a Dating Sim?

There's room for romance on the road.

The first two Monster Prom games were all about the romance element, first in school and then at summer camp. It makes sense; those are certainly two of the most hormone-addled settings I can think of. But what about the third game, Monster Roadtrip? Is Monster Roadtrip a dating sim?

Is Monster Roadtrip a Dating Sim?

The answer is both yes and no. Dating and romance are an option in Monster Roadtrip, but they’re not the crux of the game experience this time around. Your road trip experience is more about having fun, seeing the sights, and interacting with the series’ diverse cast of weirdos in new and interesting ways. This is reflected in the ultimate goal of a Monster Roadtrip run; you’re not trying to coerce your peers into dating you, you’re just trying to make it to the end of the trip without dying or getting bored or what have you.

That said, if pursuing romance is your idea of fun, then you can totally still do that. You can end a run by romancing one of the various NPCs you encounter, whether that be your perpetual co-pilots Polly or Scott or one of the various hitchhikers you pick up along the way. In order to actually make romance happen, though, you will need to trigger very specific events and make very specific dialogue choices. Basically, the option of romance is there, but you gotta work extra hard for it!

Monster Roadtrip is a slightly broader experience for those who aren’t really interested in the dating aspect of the previous games, while still providing that element for those who were! Inclusivity! It’s important!
