Silent Hill 2 Remake was announced by Konami via live stream. It has been 20+ years since we saw Silent Hill 2 on the PS2 for the first time, and eight years since the Silent Hill HD Collection on PS3. This classic horror franchise has been revived, riding the wave of horror game remakes.
Not only is Konami releasing a remake of their most iconic, horror classic, but we also get a new Silent Hill game called Townfall. A live, interactive series has been announced alongside a new film called Return to Silent Hill. But amongst all this, we are also shown collectible items that are releasing including statues of Silent Hill 2 characters and most importantly, an homage paid towards the franchise: the Inu-End statue.
What is Inu-End?
Inu-End, simply put is Dog-Ending. The dog in question is Mira, a Shiba Inu who appears at the end of Silent Hill 2. Now you are probably thinking back to the canon ending of the game and distinctly remembering that there was no dog. Mira appears in the “Dog” ending, a joke ending following the great “UFO” ending in Silent Hill’s first installment. The concept of this ending is that Mira is behind the events in Silent Hill. To find this ending in the original Silent Hill 2 you must obtain the Dog key in the Lakeview Hotel and watch the videotape that you find on the first floor in an office safe. Enter the observation room and the “Dog” ending will play.
Upon seeing Mira controlling levers, James (in Japanese) exclaims “so this was all your work!” and falls to his knees, his mind blown, he admits defeat. One of life’s most unanswered questions is: was Mira taunting or comforting James? Because after James falls to his knees Mira gets off the chair and begins to lick his face. Masterful entertainment.
Appearances
Mira appears in multiple joke endings after Silent Hill 2, she’s like a kind of Silent Hill mascot accompanied by the reoccurring “UFO” joke ending which is first seen in Silent Hill 1. Mira reappears in later Silent Hill games, these are:
- Origins – “UFO” ending, Mira appears with her alien companions as a translator for the alien.
- Shattered Memories – “UFO” ending, Cheryl transforms into Mira.
- The Escape – Appears after the players second playthrough (as an alien). Pays homage to Silent Hill 2 by having Mira as the mastermind to the previous events. Mira then becomes a playable character for a bonus portion of the game.
- Book of Memories – A hostage in Earth Dungeon and appears in later missions (Valtiel). Her last appearance is in the joke ending, digging on the Toluca Lake beach.

What This Means
We can only hope that Mira will reappear in the Silent Hill 2 remake. If Konami decides to include all endings as part of the remake experience. But Konami releasing the Inu-End statue is a subtle but comforting hug to the loyal fanbase, for acknowledging and remembering them after 21 years.
