Overwatch 2 is finally upon us and with it, a new requirement to login to the game itself — the SMS Protect scheme or more specifically, the very appropriately named “Defense Matrix.” For both newcomers and pre-existing players of Overwatch, booting up Overwatch 2 will require a Post-Paid number to be linked to your Battle.net account to even access the game’s main menu. When it’s the only barrier to accessing the game now that Overwatch is free to play, here’s what you need to know if attaching your number is trickier than a simple, single input.
How to Transfer a Phone Number to Another Battle.net Account
Transferring a phone number could not be any simpler for Overwatch 2, which is handy since Blizzard no longer allows players to use the same mobile number on multiple accounts. Players with issues outside of this such as losing their mobile phone or getting a new number will also be covered. Keeping track of which number you may or may not have linked should be a breeze because all you will need to do is check your Battle.net account overview for this single vital piece of information.
Login and click on the ‘Security Checkup’ heading on the Overview page you come to once you’ve logged in. Select the section ‘Account Details.’ Scroll down to the third box titled ‘Phone Number.’ From there, you can either update it by changing the linked phone number or remove it completely. This will be all that you need to do to change or remove the phone number you have linked to your Blizzard account.
Remember that you need a phone number registered to access Overwatch 2 at all times, so ensure that you have it filled in sooner rather than later. If you happen to have linked it to the wrong Blizzard account, simply follow the steps we provided above.
