Slime Rancher 2 is more than an adorable wrangling simulator. It’s an exploration game full of secrets. But as fun as it may be to uncover the mysteries of the land, just sitting back and doing some honest ranching is super fun as well. If you want to get serious, then follow these tips and tricks to improve you ranch in Slime Rancher 2.
Slime Ranching tips
These tips are relevant for any rancher and will significantly increase the efficiency and practicality of your ranch.
Wrangle unique largos
For maximum plort extraction, your ranch will be producing every plort available. This is useful for money-making but also as an easy way to access all the plorts needed for any Slime Science needs.
The best way to do this is to wrangle exclusively largos, and all of unique types. This will mean that (if you exclude the pink slimes, which is also recommended) you will have six corrals of six largo types of your choosing. You can have more largo combinations, but it won’t really be necessary. You’ll be making enough money from those guys alone.
To maximise food production, try not to pair meat-eaters with other meat-eaters, as cooping hens is much less efficient than growing veggies or fruits.

This way, you’ll have an abundance of plorts you’ll hardly be able to handle!
Keep slimes near their favourite food
Almost every slime has a favourite food that’ll mean they produce double plorts. If you heeded step one and have exclusively largos, then those largos will benefit from both favourite foods. Find the foods and produce them in a coop or garden next to the corral.
This will mean that you don’t have to travel far to feed the slimes and you’ll be feeding them their favourite foods. The only risk is the danger of the slimes escaping the corral if agitated and munching on all the food, producing plorts in the open. But you keep your slimes happy, this won’t be a problem.
Don’t crash the plort market!
With these strategies, you’ll be drowning in plorts, but try to resist the temptation of selling them all in the plort market constantly. This will only saturate the market and drive down the values significantly.
The savvy rancher will set up silos that will enable them to keep plorts in storage to wait for the price of the plorts to sky rocket. When the prices are high, you can simply then sell all of the plorts, bringing you in big money.
Alternatively, whilst waiting for the prices to raise, you can throw all the plorts in the Refinery to be used for Slime Science.
Experimental tricks
These are some ideas that you may want to experiment on your ranch with. For fun, curiosity, or genuine use, is up to you.
Free range hens
You don’t just need a coop to raise a family of hens in Slime Rancher 2. In fact, coops are limiting in that your hens and roostros won’t produce new young if the coop gets a little crowded. To surpass such limitations, simply set a roostro and a hen of your choice free in either an expansion of the ranch or in the lab and watch them multiply beyond your wildest dreams.
If you unleash the chicken horde in an expansion, you can set your meat-eating slimes or largos into the expansion, and as long as there aren’t too many of them, the hens will keep reproducing and your slimes will keep eating, producing an unlimited potential of plorts.
The only downside is that you’ll have to vacuum up all the plorts yourself, at least till they add drones.
Gardens galore
The same principle as above, except you will be limited to an expansion. Buy gardens for all the empty plots in an expansion of your choice (I would recommend the Archway) and fully upgrade them, growing either a variety of veggies and fruit, or just one particular slime’s favourite.
Then, flood that expansion with one slime type or largo who favours the food growing, and watch them gobble up all the food and leave a treasure trove of plorts behind them.
Again, you will have to collect all the plorts yourself.
