How to defeat Nihil’s boss, the Doppleganger Aspect, in Metal: Hellsinger

Are there two of them, or have I been hit in the head too hard?

Metal: Hellsinger just won’t give you a break as you reach the end of Nihil. If you thought the other bosses were hard, then you’ve seen nothing yet. You’ll be questioning your eyesight as you step into Nihil’s boss arena to face the illusionary Doppleganger Aspect. Let’s hope your skills are as sharp as those blades. Here is how to defeat the Doppleganger Aspect in Metal: Hellsinger.

Before the fight

For this fight, it is paramount to have your fury at 16x to cause as much damage as you can whilst you can. It would also be super useful if all of your weapon’s ultimates are charged, to cause maximum damage. It is difficult to predict when the boss is up, so try to save your ultimates towards the later stage of the game, and use Paz to help maintain your 16x fury.

You will have the pick of a full arsenal at your loadout screen, but choosing Vulcan for one of your weapons would be strongly advised, but only if you have Ghost Rounds III in play, for insane damage quickly.

During the fight

This fight will test your patience and stress management as the Doppleganger Aspect can duplicate copies of itself to fight you. Only one of the copies will be the real deal and can be damaged. The rest are invulnerable and are there just to give you a bad time.

Firstly, get familiar with the arena. There are Styx Crystals, Chaos Crystals, fury buffs, and pillars. The pillars in this boss fight will become your best friends.

As the fight progresses, the Doppleganger Aspect will go from having one copy, to two copies, to three copies. Unlike the other boss fights, there are no incremental stages of enemies to come and fight you. This means that you have to deal with the boss and its duplicates with only the limited Styx Crystals to give you health. No more walking health boosters.

The other copies will throw their own projectile patterns at you to avoid. My advice would be to ignore them. When they all switch places, shoot them all to find the one that takes damage. Keep yourself positioned behind a pillar and just unleash bolt after bolt into the boss. Having the Ghost Rounds III Sigil really helps with throwing lots at the boss quickly.

Keep your peripherals open to avoid the projectiles from the other bosses, but use the pillar as an anchor to keep ducking around when they begind to overwhelm you.

Don’t forget to blow up any Chaos Crystals and to dash for Styx Crystals when they rearrange themselves.

At certain points, every copy will pause to unleash dozens of projectiles every second, swarming the whole arena. You must stay behind the pillar to avoid them. If their angle means they’ll hit you, then dash to the next pillar; you are invulnerable briefly when you dash.

So, keep to that pattern of focusing on the real deal with Vulcan, keeping behind a pillar and cracking crystals, you’ll survive arguably the most difficult boss fight in the game.
