Over the course of the last several weeks, 2K Sports has been unveiling loads of information surrounding the upcoming release of NBA 2K23. Now that we’re just days away from the official launch date, player ratings are next on the list in terms of content reveals.
Today we’re going to be highlighting NBA 2K23’s reveal of the top rookie ratings and rankings.

- Paulo Banchero (78), PF – Orlando Magic
- Jabari Smith Jr. (78), PF – Houston Rockets
- Chet Holmgren (77), C – Oklahoma City Thunder
- Keegan Murray (76), PF/SF – Sacramento Kings
- Jaden Ivey (76), SG – Detroit Pistons
Entering the 2022 NBA Draft as the most “pro-ready” player, Paulo Banchero was the first to get drafted in a talented pool of prospects. In high school, Banchero was a consensus five-star recruit and one of the best players in the country before committing to Duke University. Where he would go on to average over 17 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. So, it’s no shock to see him at the top of the list.
Jabari Smith Jr. was another name who appeared to be a lock to go first or second overall in the draft but somehow slid to the third spot with the Houston Rockets. Nevertheless, his outstanding college career and NBA-ready attributes have landed him one of the better NBA 2K23 ratings. While Chet Holmgren falls narrowly behind as one of the most versatile and dangerous 7-footers in the league.
Keegan Murray and Jaden Ivey both too had successfully collegiate careers and entered the 2022 NBA Draft as two of the more enticing prospects in this year’s draft class. As a result, they are also worthy of a spot in the top 5.
Even though I don’t necessarily disagree with the rankings, as each of these players was drafted in the top 5. What I find curious is how this year’s top-rated rookie (Paulo Banchero) is rated three points lower than last year’s first overall pick, Cade Cunningham. Who held an 81 overall rating in NBA 2K22 at launch. Obviously, these ratings will fluctuate over the course of the season, but I feel that these players could have been rated a tad higher in my opinion.
