Team17 and OverBorder Studio’s new Soulsborne title, Thymesia has officially hit gaming platforms, with a world filled with dangers for players to take on. With fast-paced combat, a gothic-inspired world, and numerous enemies to study, Thymesia is already shaping up to be one of the better Soulsborne titles to play these days. And with a new take on the formula comes new mechanics to learn and eventually master. So, today we’ll explain how to use melee weapons in Thymesia so that you know how to dispatch your opponents.
How to Use Melee Weapons in Thymesia
Combat in Thymesia is actually pretty easy to learn though, of course, it’s going to take a lot of time and death to master. There’s both melee and ranged combat to use in Thymesia but we’ll be focusing on melee today, as it’s the main focus of the game, and rightfully so. The melee combat in Thymesia is actually quite smooth and satisfying to use, especially if you’re new to the Soulsborne or Souls-like sub-genres.
When it comes to melee combat, your main attack is going to be Corvus’ Saber. With it, he can attack, wound, and execute his enemies. Attacks with the Saber deal damage to enemies as well as leave them with wounds that heal over time unless you continue to hit them. After having gotten both their health and wounds below zero, you’ll be able to execute them as they’ll be in a dazed state. The execution prompt is tied to whatever your mapped button is for Saber Attacks.
Corvus has an additional melee attack called “Claw Attack”. This is performed with a button different from his Saber Attack and gives enemies a larger batch of damage to their wounds, making it impossible for them to heal what you’ve dealt. His Claw Attack can also be used to pick up Plague Weapons from enemies. Plague Weapons can be “Reaved” with the Claw Attack, giving Corvus the opportunity to heavily damage enemies and steal their weapons for his own use.
Probably some of the most important aspects of melee combat are going to be dodging, deflecting, and locking on to enemies. All of these are done through separate button presses but each serves an important function. Dodges are good when you aren’t ready for an enemy attack, deflecting is used to perfectly parry and damage an enemy, and locking on to enemies means they’re always in your line of sight. You can also swap targets as well.
That’s all there is to melee combat in Thymesia! If you’re ever unsure about what buttons are mapped to specific actions, be sure to check the game’s settings so that you’re always in control of your battles.
