It’s been almost one year since the release of WWE 2K22. The game brought with it many improvements but they were still areas where the game could have been much better such as Universe mode and Showcase mode. Will Universe Mode and Showcase Mode be in WWE 2K23?

2K has confirmed that both modes will be featured in WWE 2K23. This year’s Showcase mode will have 14 matches revolving around the career of the game’s cover star, John Cena. The amount of matches may seem disappointing as its only 2 more matches than what the Showcase mode in 2K22 had but there’s a reason for this: Each match will be a loss from John Cena’s career. If you’ve watched WWE, you’ll know that he doesn’t have too many of those.

This means that you’ll be controlling his opponent in each of these matches. In an interview with Games Hub, the game’s Showcase lead designer mentions that the mode will start with his debut match, which he lost. The theme of the mode seems to be recovering and moving on after failure.

In addition to Showcase mode, it sounds like Universe mode is receiving some much-needed attention. The mode lets you control your own version of WWE but since its inception, has never made you feel like you were truly in control. Now that is changing. Creative director Lynell Jinks mentioned in an interview that the team “ended up doing was basically bringing Universe over to the [MyRise] system, but have the Universe engine power underneath it.” He went on to talk about how now players can choose what happens between to superstars before a match. He used shaking hands as an example.
