Who is Dr. Gurgula’s Voice Actor in High on Life?

Whodunnit?

It’s not a hot take to say that High on Life has a star-studded cast. With iconic talent like Justin Roiland, JB Smoove, Betsy Sodaro, and Tim Robinson, that hypothesis proves itself. But, with the secret ending to High on Life being … what it is, one mystery surrounding the voice cast still remains. Who is Dr. Gurgula’s voice actor?

Who is Dr. Gurgula’s Voice Actor in High on Life?

For those who have completed the secret ending to High on Life, Dr. Gurgula needs no introduction. In what was effectively a teaser for a possible sequel, the bad doctor disposes of Magistrate Clugg, who was — in secret — working for him, and gathering humans for him to experiment on. But, he is not credited by name in the game’s end credits, so the internet has been on fire trying to figure out … whodunnit?

My initial hypothesis was that his actor was hidden somewhere in the Additional Voices section. In a game like High on Life, it’s not exactly uncommon for main cast actors to also provide additional voices for side characters or even background characters. For example — Justin Roiland, Betsy Sodaro, Michael Cusack, and Dave Herman are all also credited in Additional Voices.

So, if my hypothesis proved accurate, then the person who provided the voice for Dr. Gurgula was hidden somewhere in this list of 43 actors. And now, it fell to me to figure out … whodunnit.

No, Seriously — Who Voiced Dr. Gurgula??

I started this process the only way I knew how — I reached out to Squanch Games directly, but as of this writing, they have not responded. So, I decided to take things a step further and just do research on every single actor who is credited as an Additional Voice. Thankfully, I didn’t get very far before I stumbled upon the actor who I am almost certain provided the voice for Dr. Gurgula.

I could be wrong, and if Squanch Games reaches out with a concrete answer, we’ll gladly update this piece. But, until we hear otherwise, this is who we believe is the actor for Dr. Gurgula: James Urbaniak. It could also very realistically be Wayne Pygram, who is also credited as an Additional Voice.

Urbaniak is most known for being Dr. Venture in The Venture Bros., as well as appearances in Better Call Saul, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Difficult People. In fact, what got us to this conclusion is a video where he demonstrates a David Bowie impression, and how it is eerily similar to the villainous cadence put on by Dr. Gurgula. See the videos below, but be warned: the first contains High on Life spoilers.

But, at the same time … it could also be Pygram. I actually think it would be less effort for Pygram that it would be for Urbaniak, given Pygram’s natural accent seems closer to Gurgula.

So, we’re going to say that either James Urbaniak or Wayne Pygram is the voice actor for Dr. Gurgula. Again — if the studio behind High on Life responds to our request for confirmation, we will update this page accordingly. But, until then … we’d might as well get used to hearing this voice, as Gurgula is being set up as the villain of High on Life 2 … if such a thing is actually coming down the pipeline.
