When you have two branching Pokemon of the same evolutionary line, you’re basically asking for a comparison between the two. The Lycanroc forms, Frosslass versus Glalie, and of course, Gardevoir and Gallade. While these Pokemon look very similar and come from the same place, there are some critical distinctions between them. So, which is better, Gardevoir or Gallade, in Pokemon GO?
Which is Better, Gardevoir or Gallade, in Pokémon GO?
To determine which of the two is the overall better Pokemon, we’re going to compare their base stats, their resistances, and their move sets.
Base Stats
Our first category is, mildly frustratingly, a tie. Both Gardevoir and Gallade have completely identical base stats. They’ve got 237 base Attack, 195 base Defense, and 169 base Stamina. Even their CP growth potentials are exactly the same, so we can’t differentiate them in this department.
Resistances
Here’s where we’ve got some proper comparison points. Gardevoir is a Psychic/Fairy-type Pokemon, while Gallade is a Psychic/Fighting-type Pokemon. Here are the resistances those combinations result in:
Gardevoir
- Resistant to: Psychic
- Double-resistant to: Fighting, Dragon
- Weak against: Poison, Ghost, Steel
Gallade
- Resistant to: Fighting, Rock
- Weak against: Fairy, Flying, Ghost
While both Gardevoir and Gallade have the same number of weaknesses and resistances, two of Gardevoir’s resistances are double-resistances, making it better at defending itself. Ergo, Gardevoir is our Resistance champ.
Movesets
Here are the moves that Gardevoir and Gallade have access to, respectively:
Gardevoir
Quick Moves
- Confusion (Psychic)
- Charge Beam (Electric)
- Charm (Fairy)
Main Moves
- Shadow Ball (Ghost)
- Dazzling Gleam (Fairy)
- Psychic (Psychic)
Gallade
Quick Moves
- Low Kick (Fighting)
- Confusion (Psychic)
- Charm (Fairy)
Main Moves
- Psychic (Psychic)
- Leaf Blade (Grass)
- Close Combat (Fighting)
Again, we have some crossover between our two candidates. In fact, for both of them, their most optimal combination of moves, at least from a flat DPS perspective, would be Confusion and Psychic. Here’s the rub, though: Gardevoir’s partial Fairy typing gives it STAB damage on its Fairy-type attacks, making it an exceptional Fairy-type combatant. Gallade, on the other hand, does get STAB damage on its Fighting moves, but that damage is only slightly above-average compared to some of the stronger Fighting-types like Lucario or Conkeldurr. As such, while either Pokemon is a decent choice for a Psychic-type pick, there are far better choices for Fighting picks than Gallade, while Gardevoir is an excellent double threat of Psychic and Fairy.
With a final score of two to zilch and a tie, Gardevoir is the better Pokemon in Pokemon GO. It’s just as well; it’s easier to evolve a Kirlia into a Gardevoir than it is to evolve one into a Gallade anyway.
