Which Archetype Should You Choose in Disco Elysium?

Are you a good cop or a bad cop?

Disco Elysium is a true role-playing game that puts you in the shoes of a detective solving day-to-day crimes. The whole experience is custom so the game really feels like a “choose your own ending” novels where you decide how the storyline will flow.

However, your character will have to excel at certain personal characteristics while missing out on others and that’s where Archetypes come in. Read on to find out everything about Archetypes in Disco Elysium and how to choose the right one.

How to Choose the Right Archetype in Disco Elysium?

To start with, you will have three different Archetypes to choose from when playing Disco Elysium: Thinker, Sensitive and Physical. There will be a fourth option of customizing all your personality traits but you can play with that one after understanding the three basic ones.

Playing with The Thinker Archetype

Thinker will be on the intelligent side, meaning you will better deduct things and notice more interesting facts. Kinda like Sherlock Holmes. Your character will be more creative, better understand facts in front of him, and easily solve anything requiring logic. To add to that Thinker will also be fairly good with motoric skills. His only downside would be the lack of empathy from other people. Interviewing suspects will give you less information than when using two of the other Archetypes.

Playing with The Sensitive Archetype

The Sensitive Archetype will help you get in touch with yourself or Inland Empire, as it’s called in this game. Inland Empire describes your gut feelings and hunches and basically improves your imagination. This is where your power lies when choosing the Sensitive detective. The second “power” you will have is great conversation skills. You will be able to take more information from interviewing suspects and witnesses than any other Archetype. If you continue to continue to skill this type of detective throughout the game you will only get better and there will be nobody who can lie to you.

Your intelligence skills will have to lack here and the information that you get from talking to other people will be your weakness as it is your strength as they will often be the only source of knowledge you can rely on.

Playing with the Physical Archetype

The Physical Archetype will in short be the brute of the story, the bad cop. You will rely on your strength and will be able to use it to get information from suspects. You will excel in using fists and guns and have decent motor skills for anything that needs to be fixed or made from scratch. However, you will lack any empathy or logical conclusions, so you can say that the Physical Archetype is your typical dirty cop that relies on force to solve his cases.

Playing with the Custom Archetype

Picking the Custom Archetype option will allow you to skill whatever traits you want. Naturally, you will be limited with the number of points you can use and won’t be able to create an OP character. This is great for players that like more freedom and usually spend more time than others modifying their characters in other games as well.

It’s important to mention here that the game isn’t that hard and it won’t punish you or prevent you from completing any missions as long as you balance things out. You can feel left out if you max out certain personal skills while leaving others on 0.
