Learn where to find Piplup in Pokemon Legends Arceus

It’s kind of strange to think about catching starter Pokemon in the wild, considering you’ve never been able to do that in any mainline Pokemon game. Of course, Pokemon Legends Arceus is nothing if not a much-needed experimental title, which is why you can find the starters roaming freely in the wild. Piplup, the generation IV Water type starter, is one such Pokemon, and if you know where to look, you can relive your dreams of training an Empoleon. Technically, you’re still in the Sinnoh region, so it still fits! Here’s where to find Piplup in Pokemon Legends Arceus.

Before you can go looking for Piplups, you need to have progressed far enough into the game’s main story to enlist the aid of Basculegion. That’s something to keep in mind before diving into our guide on where to find Piplup in Pokemon Legends Arceus.

Where to Find Piplup in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Piplup is found primarily inland from the Islespy Shore of the Cobalt Coastlands, but you can’t even reach that area until Basculegion gives you safe passage over the water. You can see it from up on Veilstone Cape, but trust me, don’t try to jump down.

Pokemon Legends Arceus Piplup Location

Once you make your way inland, you should see a few Piplups milling about, as well as an Alpha Empoleon in the middle of them all. Disregard the Alpha Empoleon, as you probably won’t have strong enough Pokemon to catch it. Piplup has an aggressive disposition, so it will pick a fight with you if it spots you out of cover. Luckily, as a base level Pokemon, it’s not especially strong, so if you just use a Pokemon that knows False Swipe, you can whittle it down enough to catch in any regular PokeBall fairly easily.

How to Evolve Piplup into Prinplup

Piplup evolves into Prinplup starting at level 16, then into Empoleon at level 36 which is also when it picks up a secondary Steel type to go with its Water type. That’s a valuable Pokemon to have, as Steel types are immune to Poison Pokemon, of which there seem to be quite a few around the Hisui region in Pokemon Legends Arceus.
