Who is the Strongest Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus?

Putting together things like tier lists for Pokemon Legends: Arceus has proven to be a bit of a tricky endeavor for the community. The game doesn’t have any kind of PvP component, and even in-game trainer battles are heavily deprioritized, so it’s kind of hard to say which Pokemon is the “best.” Nevertheless, we always have the raw stats and types to fall back on, so in absence of a competitive tier list, we can make at least a few concrete statements about who’s the best there ever was. So, who is the strongest Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus?

It should probably go without saying, but the strongest Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus is, of course, Arceus itself. Its base stats are 120s across the board, its Multitype ability allows it to switch to any type it wants outside of combat thanks to the Plates, and it can learn every move in the game, barring exclusive signature moves. Not that it needs other Pokemons’ signature moves, since its own signature move, Judgement, is hideously powerful. Arceus is both a Legendary Pokemon and the mascot of the game, so you probably didn’t need me to explain this to you.

But putting the Legendaries aside, all of whom naturally have amazing stats and whatnot, what’s the best non-Legendary Pokemon in Pokemon Legends Arceus? There are a few potential contenders:

  • Garchomp
  • Hisuian Goodra
  • Gyarados

Garchomp is another familiar face in the tier discussion, being a regular resident of S-tiers since it was first introduced. Garchomp’s attack stats are once again insane, and its STAB damage Dragon and Ground moves can make short work of most opponents. It’s also a surprisingly accessible Pokemon, as high-level Gibles and Gabites can be easily found around the Coronet Highlands. I caught an Alpha Garchomp at level 85 just yesterday.

Hisuian Goodra, in spite of its weird snail shell, is a major upgrade over its regular counterpart, who was already a pretty great Pokemon. The addition of Steel typing to its usual Dragon typing means it only has two weaknesses, balanced by nine resistances and a full-on immunity. That’s not even mentioning its nearly impenetrable special defense stats and STAB Steel and Dragon moves.

Finally, Gyarados, while a bit lacking in the defensive department, makes up for it in powerful and wide-reaching damage dealing capacity. It gets STAB on both Water and Flying moves, which are plentiful, powerful, and good for exploiting weaknesses, and it’s capable of learning just about any other move it’d need to cover any blind spots.
