Where to Find Defog in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Out of all of the Hidden Moves in Pokémon games, Defog isn’t exactly the most popular. It only has a handful of extremely specific applications in battle, so making you use up a slot of a Pokémon’s moveset to use it in the field was always a bit of a pain. Thankfully, in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you don’t need to teach HMs to use their abilities anymore, so you can use Defog’s practical abilities without worrying about wasting space. Here’s where to find Defog in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

To clarify, there are actually two Defogs in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl: a regular, teachable TM and the field-usable HM. There are two separate things you need to do in order to obtain the move and then actually use it out in the field.

To find Defog in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

  1. Enter The Great Marsh near Pastoria City
  2. Talk to the Ace Trainer standing near the tram, and they’ll give you the TM for Defog
  3. Defeat Crasher Wake, Gym Leader of Pastoria City, to use Defog in the field

Near Pastoria City is The Great Marsh, a big swampy ecological area with lots of wetlands to explore and look for Pokémon. You’ll need to pay 500 bucks to get in, and after you enter, look for the platform with a big orange tram on it. Standing nearby will be an Ace Trainer NPC, and if you have a quick chat with them, they’ll give you TM97: Defog. You can use this to teach Defog to your Pokémon if you like, but you can’t use it in the field just yet.

To unlock Defog in the Hidden Moves app on your Poketch, you’ll need to defeat Crasher Wake, the Gym Leader of Pastoria City. Once you’ve bested Wake, Defog will appear in the Hidden Moves app. Whenever there’s thick, white fog around in the overworld, just use Defog to blow it away.
