The paradox Pokémon have returned. The two versions of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet has released, with its exclusive differences. Including that of legendary and exclusive Pokémon. The exclusive Generation 2 Pokémon, Larvitar returns to the newest instalment, Pokémon Scarlet. Players looking for a strong Ground/Rock-Type to join their team can find Larvitar early in the game. However, with its rarity, players may need to search longer than they would normally do to find this exclusive Pokémon. These are the locations to capture and evolve Larvitar in Pokémon Scarlet.
Where to Catch Larvitar in Pokémon Scarlet
Larvitar is located in the Paldea provinces:
- South Province (Area Five)
- East Province (Area Three)
- South Province (Area Two)
Larvitar spawns in dark areas, predominately seen in cave systems such as the Alfornada Caves. Players can find Larvitar very early in the game from starting at Cortondo in South Province (and going across the river on the southern side. Those who are attempting to catch Larvitar later on in the game will have the ability to jump over the river with ease. Those who want to catch Larvitar early in the game need to go the longer route around the river as if you were heading to South Province (Area Six) via the route in South Province (Area Four).
Those starting early, players should cross over the river by heading left to South Province (Area Four). From here, players need to go far left, staying alongside the river. Larvitar is located in this early part of the map, inside a small cave system which looks like a long tunnel. A shortcut from South Province Area Six to Area Two. Refer to the screenshot above for an exact location of the caves. Similar to locating Bagon in Pokémon Violet, Larvitar is a rare spawning Pokémon. So, Scarlet players need to repeatedly check the tunnel throughout the day, exiting and returning to reset the spawns.
How to Evolve Larvitar
Like most Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet, Larvitar does not have any specific requirements to evolve into its two forms. All players need to do with Larvitar is level up. This can be done either with the EXP sharing mechanic or by using Larvitar regularly in manual battling to give the Pokémon the most experience possible in a fight. Upon reaching Level 30, Larvitar will evolve into Pupitar and then evolve again into Tyranitar at Level 55. Larvitar’s Attack base stats double when evolving into the last form of Tyranitar. With 64 DMG doubling to 134 at the end of the evolution line.
The Ground/Rock Type Pokémon Larvitar, is a great addition to a team build. As a Pokémon to build the team around or for those trying to form the best Ground and Rock team. A necessary throwback to Generation 2, Larvitar is a strong Pokémon to include in any team and its rewarding process of levelling and evolving at Level 55 is 100% worth the commitment.
As Larvitar is a Scarlet exclusive, those who do not own the game will have to trade with a Scarlet user to obtain Larvitar. Either to add the Pokémon on their team or to achieve 100% completion of their Pokedex. Players can also invite their friends into their world, allowing Violet players to obtain Larvitar for themselves and see first-hand the differences between the Scarlet and Violet experience.
