Wanna hear something creepy? When I first played Pokémon Blue as a kid, I managed to complete the full Kanto Dex, all 150 Pokémon. Thing is, though… I didn’t do any trading. I didn’t have a link cable, so I literally couldn’t. Yet somehow, all of the Pokémon Red exclusives found their way into my Dex. I guess either I’m just remembering wrong, or my cartridge was haunted, which if you believe all the creepypastas out there, isn’t that uncommon for old Pokémon games. While you digest that, let’s flash forward to a newer, hopefully less haunted Pokémon game, and discuss what Pokémon will be in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
As Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the Generation IV Pokémon games, Diamond and Pearl, it’s a given that they’ll include every Pokémon from the Sinnoh Dex. That spans National Dex number 387, Turtwig, to National Dex number 493, Arceus, 106 Pokémon in total. The original Sinnoh Dex also included numerous Pokémon from the National Dex, presumably to pad out that somewhat lacking 106, including classics like Abra, Hoothoot, Snorlax, and others, bringing the grand total up to 151. While the exact extent to which the National Dex will be included in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl has not been divulged, it’s a safe bet this will carry over, as there simply wouldn’t be enough Pokémon otherwise.
Before you pick a version to buy, you’ll also need to consider the version-exclusive Pokémon. As is tradition, both versions feature Pokémon that you can’t find naturally in the other. Again, only the Sinnoh-native Pokémon have been officially confirmed, but we’ll include the exclusives from the original Diamond and Pearl here just in case.
