When it comes to the Persona series, players embody the main player character who players name. Since they do not have any default names, their canon names are not all that well-known, but they do indeed exist. For newcomers to the series, this is most definitely not common knowledge, and knowing where these cannon names originate from and what they are makes for easy implementation on the Name Entry screen for each instalment of the series.
What is the Protagonist Name in Persona 3?
When it comes to the specific title of Persona 3, it’s not unlike the rest of the series after its conception in how the main character’s name originated from. In what would become a staple of the series after Persona 3, the player character’s name would be inserted and mentioned in media outside of the game. This would come after the initial release of the title in the forms of stage plays, anime adaptations and manga adaptations.

For Persona 3, this happened in a number of ways, resulting in a variety of canon names deriving for the male player character. The most well-known one being Makoto Yuki came from the animated Persona 3 movie as well as other spin-off games such as Dancing in Moonlight. Within its manga adaptation, he was named Minato Arisato, whilst in the stage play, he was called Sakuya Shiomi.
With the updated version of Persona 3 coming to be with Persona 3 Portable that added a female counterpart to Makoto Yuki, Kotone Shiomi joined the cast. This name appeared in the stage play and is the only name to have ever been related to the female player character of this title.
