What is Tempo and How to Change it – Madden 24 Beginner’s Guide

A way to stress your opponent

In any Sports game the team who has the advantage through the match will cause pressure to the opposition. It can always lead to feeling defeated before the game ends or in the case of console gaming – the destruction of your favorite Xbox controller. Dealing with stick drift is the least of your worries in Madden 24 as the clock ticks away at your decision making and the pressure turns against you once the odds are in your favor. Momentum is everything in Madden 24, regardless of the M-Meter and it can make or break your game if your opposition decides to switch up the Tempo. This is Vincent’s guide on how to use Tempo in Madden 24.

What is Tempo in Madden 24?

Tempo is used regularly in real life American Football games. It describes the pace of the game to keep up the momentum when gained by one team. What is often seen when a team has gained momentum through scoring field goals and hitting frequent touchdowns is the removal of huddles which forces the opposition to react faster than they would have initially wanted. It forces them in an awkward and intense position that will likely lead to more fumbles in play or breaks in their line of defence for the momentum-gained team to punish. In Madden 24, this can be seen by using the No Huddle Tempo choice which forces your opposition to make plays faster than they would have originally liked. Another option of Tempo is the setting to Chew Clock which basically speeds up the in-game clock, shortening the amount of time the opposition has to react and make decisions.

How to Change Tempo

Tempo can be chosen when choosing your Play Type. Regardless of whether you choose to use Formation, Concept, Play Type, or Personnel, the Tempo of the Play you are about to execute can be changed from Normal to No Huddle or Chew Clock depending on what type of pressure you want to put on the opposition when you are on the offence. Both options eats away at their time to make decisions and react fast enough to your Play that it can often result in more momentum being given into your M-Meter as things continue to go your way.

To change Tempo all you need to do is push in the right analog stick. This will flick over from Normal to No Huddle to Chew Clock and then back to Normal. You will see this option at the bottom of the Filter Plays Screen where it can be set at the beginning or after deciding on the Play you want to go for. It is best to change up the Tempo when you are out-performing your opponent and you want to keep the momentum going in the match.
