With so many characters to choose from in Honkai: Star Rail, knowing what makes them thrive in battle is crucial to gaining the upper hand against the many enemies you will take on in this RPG. As each character follows their own Path meaning that they deal different Elemental Damage and have unique Skills to make them stand out in the pack, it can be hard to keep track of who to appropriately utilize in specific fights. Whether you are trying to get in that Critical Damage to Slow opponents, deal damage to multiple enemies at once or execute a Follow-Up Attack with your Party members waiting in the background to get involved, knowing what characters have which Talents is very important. Therefore, this guide will show you exactly what Follow-Up Attacks are and how to use them in Honkai: Star Rail.
What are Follow-Up Attacks?
Due to the fact that Honkai: Star Rail follows a turn-based combat system rather than real-time fighting where you can move around an open-world like Genshin Impact, players have more opportunities in combat to Counter, Defend and use Follow-Up Attacks. What these moves are attacks that happen automatically without you selecting for an attack to be executed via the on-screen menu. The only way this happens however is if you are successful using your chosen character in the Party with their attack connecting on the enemy and dealing damage. By successfully dealing damage, another Party member will swoop in with their attacking move and deal more damage against the enemy without any repercussions.

What is very important to note is that not all characters in Honkai: Star Rail can utilize this ability as it is classified as one of the 5 Skill Categories in the game which are different for every character. Follow-Up Attacks fall under the Talent Category, this means that only a handful of characters in the game can utilize the Follow-Up Attack within a battle. These are:
- Herta – Uses Follow-Up Attacks if Party member reduces enemy HP to below 50%
- March 7th – If Shielded Party member gets hit, March 7th will perform a Counter-Attack.
- Kafka – Follow-Up Attack initiated after Party member deals damage to a Shocked enemy.
- Jing Yuan – Can use Follow-Up Attacks after his own move.
- Clara – Performs Counter-Attacks whenever an enemy inflicts damage against Clara or other Party members.
- Himeko – Follow-Up Attack happens if Party member or Himeko inflicts Weakness Break against an enemy.
Some characters such as Jing Yuan are actually capable of executing a Follow-Up Attack if they are the one to hit the enemy first, however this move is not always guaranteed. In rare instances you can actually chain Follow-Up Attacks back-to-back with multiple Party members against waves of enemies.
