What Does A Missing Page do in Binding of Isaac?

Words have power.

If you’ve ever seen any of the Evil Dead movies, you know that the pages of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis are deadly magical tools in their own right. Yep, that book is so evil, even the individual pages are soaked in nasty mojo. Apparently, one of those pages made its way into Isaac’s basement! So, what does A Missing Page do in Binding of Isaac?

What Does A Missing Page do in Binding of Isaac?

A Missing Page is a Trinket item in Binding of Isaac, equipped independently of usable items and passive items. It looks like a little gray piece of paper with a bunch of spooky red markings scrawled all over it. In case that brief tangent at the start didn’t tip you off, it’s a page from the Necronomicon, which should give you an idea of what it does.

A Missing Page has two effects, depending on whether you use it by itself or in conjunction with other items. By itself, A Missing Page has a chance to trigger the effect of the Necronomicon (i.e. 80 damage to all enemies in the current room) every time you take damage. The odds of this happening are dependent upon your Luck stat; if your Luck is around 60, for instance, you’ve got about a 50/50 shot of triggering the effect on hit.

The second, and perhaps more important effect of A Missing Page is enhancing the effects of other similar items. Any item that deals room-wide damage will deal 40 extra damage if you have A Missing Page equipped. This boost applies to the Necronomicon, of course, but it also applies to the following items:

  • Black Hearts
  • Blood Rights
  • Dry Baby
  • The Negative
  • XIII – Death Tarot

Additionally, if you have any of the following items, the boost from A Missing Page is doubled, increasing the bonus damage to 80:

  • Golden A Missing Page
  • Mom’s Box
  • Missing Page 2

Basically, if you’re making extensive use of any items or abilities that consistently trigger room-wide damage, or have high Luck and a means of mitigating damage, you’d do well to have A Missing Page tucked into your pocket to maximize the effect.
