What Are Witcheries in Moonscars?

A little sorcery never hurt anyone. Just don't ask those slaughtered by them...

Moonscars is a terribly difficult sidescroller soulslike that will push your patience to its limits. You can’t go five steps without encountering an enemy, or an ambush, or a trap, or a boss. Literally. This compact hell does, however, equip you with tools necessary to slaughter enemies and have a good time doing so. Witcheries are one of the great elements of Moonscars that you cannot progress without comprehending. Here is everything you need to know about Witcheries in Moonscars.

What Witcheries are used for

Witcheries are essentially powerful magic abilities. There are dozens of them, which are either unique abilities with their own versatility, or an upgrade over a former Witchery. For the most part, you will be using them for their offensive purposes, to damage and kill other enemies.

Every Witchery depletes your Ichor. Well, technically it spoils your Ichor. Spoiled Ichor is represented through the purple Ichor in your Ichor bar. Spoiled Ichor can still be used for healing, but until you replenish your Ichor, you won’t be able to cast another Witchery.

But not only are they used for destroying enemies. Some walls are impenetrable, with a glowing core. You can hit those walls to recover Ichor, and then unleash any projectile Witchery to smash it down.

Some Witcheries actually buff Irma instead of being used to hurt or kill. Those Witcheries can be used if you need a bit more than a quick fix, as the buff will last a short while and can help you cleave through a horde of enemies.

Witcheries are essential in Moonscars due to the presence of Gilded enemies. Gilded enemies are extremely resistant to physical attacks, but vulnerable to Witchery attacks, so make sure you have some unlocked and ready if you are to face them.

How to unlock and equip Witcheries

Witcheries are exclusively unlocked by visiting a Dark Mirror.

Through the ‘Learn’ tab, you will be exposed to the entire tree of Witcheries the game has to offer. You will need bone dust, gathered by killing enemies, to unlock any Witchery, with them getting more expensive the deeper down the tree you go.

Once you have bought a Witchery, you must go into your character menu (by pressing ‘tab’) and selecting the Witchery you want. You can only have two equipped at any time. Once you select a Witchery, you will have to select which slot you the it to be placed it, potentially replacing another Witchery.
