Most of the time to choose the right sex of your starter you just have to start over if you didn’t get the one you wanted. It doesn’t take that long and for you, it might be worth it. What are the odds for male or female though you might ask? The answer might not be what you expect. Here are the odds for male or female type starters in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

The Odds for Male or Female

You’d think, as in real life, you’d have a 50/50 chance. Sadly, for whatever reason, that does not seem to be the case. Pokemon is most subject to data-mining for their games super early. It’s strange to say that it is not a 50/50 chance for male or female starters. It is actually more of a roughly 87% chance your starter will be male. Meaning only a 13% chance of getting female. That’s right, only 1 out of 8 possibilities of getting a female starter.

Let’s be honest those numbers seem particularly unfair and not very reasonable. Not sure what has brought about this reasoning. Also, it makes you wonder what the probability of previous games were to be sure. Maybe it has always been this way?

However, to look at a silver lining, in this day and age many gamers ignore what restrictions being labeled male or female lead to. If there’s any proof in that debate for Pokemon just remember past controversies with such Pokemon as Gardevoir. If you really do want your chance in having a female starter though, all we can really say is don’t give up and maybe it won’t take you 8 times to get there.
