How to ride Lox in Valheim

How to ride Lox in Valheim

To tame a Lox in Valheim, you can follow these steps:

  1. Tame the Lox.
  2. Make a Lox saddle.
  3. Put the saddle on the tamed Lox.
  4. Ride the Lox.

How to tame a Lox

To tame a Lox in Valheim, you’ll want to enclose it into a small space made of stone wall fortifications. With the Lox enclosed in a space, toss it some of these food items:

  • Flax
  • Barley
  • Turnips

The Lox will drop aggro, and then you will need to sneak up behind it and chuck some more food in its area. It should take around 30-45 minutes to tame the Lox completely.

When the Lox is tame, some hearts will pop up above its head, along with the message “Lox loves you.” At that point, we can move on to the saddle.

How to make a Lox saddle

The Lox saddle can be crafted at a basic Workbench using the following materials:

  • 10 Leather scraps
  • 20 Linen thread
  • 15 Black metal

Many of these items are endgame materials, so it may be a bit difficult to craft a Lox saddle depending on where you’re at in the game. Black metal comes from killing Fuling goblins, and you’ll need to smelt it down in a furnace. Linen comes from using the spinning wheel.

After you make the Lox saddle, put it into your item bar, and go over to your tamed Lox to use it. Jump up onto the Lox, and you should see the option to use the saddle and start riding it! You can also press left shift and “E” to remove the saddle.

Lox Riding Controls

The Lox riding controls certainly take some adjusting. You more or less control the direction you’re going by aiming your mouse in a direction. Use the “W” key to move forward, and whichever way you’re looking, the Lox will move in that direction.

To make the Lox engage enemies, you’ll have to stand still and let it take control. If you are forcing the Lox to move in one direction, it will mostly ignore everything around it. The Lox has 1,000 HP and 240 Stamina. When you get attacked, press the “S” key to come to a stop. You can perform a sprint move that deals some damage.

If your Lox dies, you will get back your saddle, and you can also heal it by feeding it food. Unfortunately, there are no inventory slots on the Lox, so you cannot have it carry anything for you.

Riding the Lox will increase your “Riding” skill. The Riding skill in Valheim affects animal speed and stamina drain. In other words, the higher Riding skill you have, the faster your Lox will move and the slower its stamina will drain.
