Should You Kill or Spare Jackhammer in Jagged Alliance 3?

In Jagged Alliance 3, players will come across a vast sea of enemies to defeat, animals to tame in the jungle and standout characters that you will either need to help, defeat or decide what their fate will be for the rest of the game. With examples of characters you can either recruit, defeat or aid – Pierre, Bastien and Dr. Kronenberg, JA3 throws a lot of different situations at you that you will need to overcome in order to reap the benefits. Each choice you make has a consequence but sometimes there is something hidden in the darkness that can only be seen if you shed enough light to it. So if you are wondering what to do with Jackhammer in Jagged Alliance 3, this is Vincent’s guide on whether or not you should kill or spare Jackhammer.

Where to Find and Defeat Jackhammer in JA3

Jackhammer makes his first appearance (depending on your choice) in The Good Place quest where it is required to make loyalties with the people of Port Cacao. Emma Lafontaine will send you down a very hostile path within the prison where Jackhammer resides. Before your visit to the prison however, you will need to pass the dialogue lines with Jackhammer which requires both high Wisdom and Leadership to get perfect scores on.

The fight within the prison should begin within the lower area of the prison in which you can funnel enemies through and take care of any prisoners that you come across. Deciding whether or not to release the prisoners is up to you but it is recommended that you leave those who have mental illnesses and provide no decent enough reason to be freed, inside their cells.

To defeat Jackhammer, you should utilize a stealthier approach in which Agility, Dexterity and Marksmanship are preferred to take out his men. Explosives are also great here due to the close-quarters boss fight between yourself and Jackhammer.

What Should Jackhammer’s Fate be in Jagged Alliance 3?

As with all characters that provide a conversation with you to determine their fate on if they live or die, Jackhammer will surrender if his health gets low enough. Keep this in mind so that you do not kill him before getting to have a final chat with him. The choices you are given is death or sparing him. But there is a third option that can only be obtained through clearing the entire prison. You should aim to clear the bottom floor using stealth and anything above with sniper rifles where high Marksmanship is crucial.

Those that can be killed using stealth are Guards whilst a sniper should be used on any enemies above the second floor. Protectors require damage done to them by Explosives so having an Explosives Expert on hand will be incredibly useful so that you are not risking your squad losing too much health before taking Jackhammer on. By freeing prisoners, they will also join the fight to take the second floor which is an option when overtaking the prison.

Only when you have cleared the entire prison should you then defeat and speak to Jackhammer. Keep in mind that much like your first conversation with him, having high Wisdom and Leadership Skills is important to see all options. But after doing the steps above correctly, the third option should become available where you can send Jackhammer to prison. We highly recommend you choose this option as you achieve the same loot (AA12 shotgun) as if you killed Jackhammer and do not risk losing any loyalty to Port Cacao and risk the lives of others as he will attack there next if you spare him.
