Throughout your time exploring the lands and choosing which faction you want to join, players might want to have their own created character thrust into this world. Other RPG’s such as the Fallout series, Greedfall, and more allow the player to create their own character. Because of this, many have been wondering about this port and if it would get the same treatment as other games in the genre.

Unfortunately, Risen is not like any of the previous mentioned games. As it was in the original release, there is no character creation in Risen. Instead the developers opted to have the player character be a sort of blank slate. You play as a man with no discernable features, a buzz cut, and the title of ‘Nameless Hero’. Others in the game will also refer to you as ‘the Castaway’ due to the opening of the game and how it unfolds. Taking a page from other games of the time. Instead of allowing the player to customize and create a character from scratch, they provide you with an essentially nameless, faceless protagonist to which the player can latch on to and fill in their own personality through dialogue options.
