Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Starters – Names, Types, and Abilities

First impressions are very important.

Any mainline Pokemon game lives and dies by its trio of starter Pokemon. These three Pokemon, after all, are the very first ones you’ll catch and train, and first impressions are very important. When selecting your starter in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you need to make your decision based on mechanical capabilities, as well as typing and, of course, style. Here’s what you need to know about the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters, including their names, types, and abilities.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Starters – Names, Stats, Types, and Abilities

The three new starter Pokemon that are available in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are as follows:

  • Sprigatito
  • Quaxly
  • Fuecoco

Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokemon

  • Type: Grass
  • Ability: Overgrow (Enhances Grass-type moves at low HP)

You know that cute thing that cats do where they knead people they like? Well, when Sprigatito does that, a pleasant, relaxing aroma is released from its paws. Not only does this make it even cuter, but it’s also good for disarming and relaxing angry foes. You should give your Sprigatito lots of attention, as it can get a bit sulky if it’s not the center of your focus.

Quaxly, the Duckling Pokemon

  • Type: Water
  • Ability: Torrent (Enhances Water-type moves at low HP)

Now here’s a critter that knows a thing or two about proper hair care. Quaxly’s feathers are always glossy and immaculate thanks to a rich, natural gel that its body secretes. On top of its head, that gel becomes a rich, moisturizing cream that keeps its coif in perfect condition. When threatened, Quaxly unleashes powerful, snapping kicks with its strong legs.

Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokemon

  • Type: Fire
  • Ability: Blaze (Enhances Fire-type moves at low HP)

If there are two things a Fuecoco loves, it’s lazing about and stuffing its face. Fuecoco generally moves at its own pace, immediately scarfing any food it stumbles upon with happy glee. Be careful if you try to pet it, though; its scales naturally absorb and retain ambient heat, storing it within its body. On especially hot days, and when Fuecoco is metabolizing a lot of food, they can become white-hot.

Remember to think long and hard about which of these Pokemon you like best before choosing one at the start of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, because they’ll be with you for the long haul. Personally, I’m going for Quaxly. You just can’t say no to hair like that.
