Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Quaxly Evolution Line, Abilities and Stats

This duck's got some serious panache.

I am and have been Water starter for life since 1996. Every Pokemon game that comes out, it’s always the Water-type starter, and Scarlet and Violet are no exception. For the new generation of Pokemon, the Water starter is Quaxly, the duck with a metric whoa-ton of style and panache. Here’s everything you need to know about the Quaxly evolution line in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, including abilities and stats.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Quaxly Evolution Line, Abilities and Stats

As the Water starter, Quaxly is, of course, a pure Water-type Pokemon. It’s got fabulous hair, strikes sassy poses, and knows you love it (because you do).

Here are Quaxly’s base stats:

  • HP: 55
  • Attack: 65
  • Defense: 45
  • Sp. Attack: 50
  • Sp. Defense: 45
  • Speed: 50

Quaxly’s base ability is Torrent, which boosts the strength of Water-type moves when its HP is critically low. Quaxly also has the hidden ability Moxie, which provides it with an Attack boost every time it successfully knocks out an opponent.

Quaxwell

At level 16, Quaxly evolves into Quaxwell. In addition to its still-fabulous hair, its legs have begun to develop, granting it heightened physical capabilities. Like Quaxly, Quaxwell is a pure Water-type.

Here are Quaxwell’s base stats:

  • HP: 70
  • Attack: 85
  • Defense: 65
  • Sp. Attack: 65
  • Sp. Defense: 60
  • Speed: 65

Quaxwell’s base ability and hidden ability are the same as Quaxly’s, Torrent and Moxie, respectively.

Quaquaval

At level 36, Quaxwell reaches its final evolved form, Quaquaval. Its legs and body have finished developing, leaving it with a svelt, yet muscular figure. Additionally, it seems to have picked up a fondness for Samba dancing, shimmying its hips and striking elaborate, festive poses. With its final evolution, Quaquaval becomes a Water/Fighting type.

Here are Quaquaval’s base stats:

  • HP: 85
  • Attack: 120
  • Defense: 80
  • Sp. Attack: 85
  • Sp. Defense: 75
  • Speed: 85

Quaquaval’s base ability and hidden ability are the same as Quaxwell’s, Torrent and Moxie, respectively.

The Quaxly Line: What’s its Role?

The Quaxly line is made up of old-fashioned physical DPS specialists. While each evolution’s other stats aren’t anything special, their physical Attack stats are pretty spicy. This lends itself well to Quaquaval’s partial Fighting typing, which allows it to perform a variety of physical attacks with different types. The only downside is that, due to a lack of physical Water moves, you’ll have to wait until you’ve got that dual typing before you can really take advantage of STAB damage.

Even if it wasn’t a kicking master, I’d still pick Quaxly as my Scarlet and Violet starter because, and I cannot stress this enough, Water starters for life. Once you go Water, you need go no farther.
