What is the Mechanical Circular Saw in Pokemon Legends Arceus

Jubilife Village in Pokemon Legends: Arceus is based roughly on early Meiji-era Japan. This means they’ve only just figured out things like steam power and basic electrical infrastructure. In such a period, many modern-day appliances would seem utterly incomprehensible, but then again, since you’re a trainer out of time yourself, it wouldn’t be that unusual to see a few pieces of anachronistic hardware here and there. Case in point, what is the Mechanical Circular Saw in Pokemon Legends: Arceus?

Ginter, the bearded guy who sits on a crate in front of the Gingko Guild cart in Jubilife Village, regularly sells items with vague descriptions and exorbitant prices. There’s no way of knowing what he’s actually selling you until you cough up the cash for it, and considering how expensive some of his wares get, it’s understandable that you’d want to skip some of them. However, when Ginter offers you the Mechanical Circular Saw for 20,000, you should endeavor to buy it, even with its mildly ridiculous price.

What is the Mechanical Circular Saw in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

The Mechanical Circular Saw is, in actuality, a small orange lawnmower, presumably yoinked from the future just like you. Upon purchase, the lawnmower is placed in your living quarters. What could you possibly do with a lawnmower, you ask? You, nothing, but a Rotom could do plenty. If you interact with the lawnmower while you have a Rotom in your party, it will possess the lawnmower, becoming Mow Rotom. Unlike regular Rotom’s Electric/Ghost typing, Mow Rotom is an Electric/Grass Pokemon. It also gains access to a different special move, swapping out its usual Thunder Shock for Leaf Storm.

The Mechanical Circular Saw isn’t the only strange appliance Ginter sells. He will occasionally offer one of four other Mechanical items, each one actually an appliance that Rotom can possess.

  • The Mechanical Box is a microwave, and letting Rotom possess it changes it to Heat Rotom. It becomes an Electric/Fire type and learns Overheat.
  • The Mechanical Cabinet is a refrigerator, and letting Rotom possess it changes it to Frost Rotom. It becomes an Electric/Ice type and learns Blizzard.
  • The Mechanical Tub is a washing machine, and letting Rotom possess it changes it to Wash Rotom. It becomes an Electric/Water type and learns Hydro Pump.
  • The Mechanical Pinwheel is a fan, and letting Rotom possess it changes it to Fan Rotom. It becomes an Electric/Flying type and learns Air Slash.

All of these appliances will be placed in your living quarters when you buy them, and there’s no limit to the number of times you can swap Rotom between them. You can also swap a Rotom’s form from the Pastures, so if you have more than one Rotom you want to mess with, that’s fine as well.
