Can You Get Ditto in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

As a Pokémon that can manipulate its physiology right down the cellular level, it’s anyone’s guess as to how long Ditto has existed in the world of Pokémon. They usually hide as rocks when they’re asleep, so it could have existed for eons without anyone catching onto them. Theoretically, it is possible for there to be Ditto around even in the ancient period of the Hisui region. So, can you get Ditto in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

Unfortunately, you won’t be finding any Ditto in the Hisui region. Ditto is not included in Hisui PokéDex, and can’t be found or caught in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. According to supplemental Pokémon material, Dittos have a tendency to hang around cities and people in the present day. Since Pokémon Legends: Arceus is set before humans and Pokémon really associated with one another, it makes some sense that Ditto wouldn’t have any reason to show itself, assuming it even exists yet.

There’s also a practical reason for the developers to not include Ditto in the Hisui Dex. In most Pokémon games, Trainers catch Dittos not to use them in battle, but to keep them at a daycare for breeding purposes, since Ditto can breed with literally any other Pokémon. Breeding isn’t a feature in Pokémon Legends: Arceus (again, humanity-Pokémon disconnect), so there isn’t really any necessity to a Ditto’s presence.

Nintendo hasn’t clarified yet whether Pokémon Legends: Arceus will receive any post-launch additions to the PokéDex. But, if they should choose to go that route, it’d likely be then that Ditto has the best chance of making an appearance in the Hisui region.
