Alpha Pokemon are one of the newer things you’ll encounter in Pokemon Legends Arceus. These larger-than-average Pokemon have more EV and extra special moves when you catch them. While they start with higher stats, they will still be on par with a fully trained non-Alpha Pokemon of the same species. Still, it’s fun to catch one when you’re leveling so that you have an absolute beast on your team. We’ll show you where to find Alpha Gyarados in Pokemon Legends Arceus in this guide.
Alpha Gyarados in Pokemon Legends Arceus is not terribly difficult to find, but actually catching it is another story. You will need to be at a certain point in the game and have a minimum number of stars. If you just started playing the game, wait until you meet these requirements, and then proceed with the guide.
Where to Find Alpha Gyarados in Pokemon Legends Arceus
Alpha Gyarados is found in the waters at Lake Verity in the Obsidian Fieldlands location. Obsidian Fields is the first area you will unlock in your Pokemon Legends Arceus adventures. You will need to have access to the Basculegion mount, which is available after unlocking the mount in the Coastlands.
Note that there is also an Alpha Gyarados random spawn that can show up in the waters south of Lunker’s Lair in Cobalt Coastlands. Again, this is a random spawn so it is not guaranteed like the one in Obsidian Fieldlands. You will need access to the Basculegion mount for this one, as well.
You will notice Alpha Gyarados is a Level 58 Pokemon, which may be far higher than your others. There are multiple strategies you can use to try and catch it.
How to Catch Alpha Gyarados in Pokemon Legends Arceus
To catch an Alpha Gyarados, your options are to battle it head-on and capture it that way or try a back strike. Taking it head-on might be intimidating, but you don’t need to defeat it entirely.
If you’re going head-on, all you need to do is take down its health by using your full team. Depending on when you challenge Alpha Gyarados, it will inevitably one-shot some of your Pokemon. If you’re having trouble, remember Gyarados is weak to Electric and Rock. When it has a sliver of health left, you can catch it with an Ultra Ball. Alternatively, you can try a sneaky approach to catch it with the best Poke Ball you have available, but you’ll need to be high level to make this happen.
