How to Get Flareon in Pokemon GO

Compared to the other members of the original Eevee evolution trio, Flareon is definitely the most normal-looking, relatively speaking. Rather than Jolteon’s spikes or Vaporeon’s fins, it just has a big, fluffy mane and tail. Of course, its body can reach over 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit on average from just sitting around, so it’s only a normal-looking creature. It is a good Fire type, though, so it wouldn’t hurt to have one around for your crisping needs. Here’s how to get Flareon in Pokemon GO.

Compared to some of the flashier Eevee evolutions, getting a member of the original trio is actually a little more difficult. In regular Pokemon games, you’d evolve an Eevee into a Flareon through the use of a Fire Stone, but those don’t exist in Pokemon GO. As such, the only way to get your Eevee to evolve into Flareon is to either use a one-time trick or spin the proverbial roulette.

How to Get Flareon in Pokemon GO

There are three general methods with which you could get a Flareon in Pokemon GO:

  1. The Name Evolution Method
  2. The Random Evolution Method
  3. Raid Encounters

The Name Evolution Method

Every single Eevee evolution has a special nickname associated with it. If you give an Eevee a particular nickname and evolve it using 25 Eevee Candy, it is guaranteed to evolve into the form the name is associated with. In Flareon’s case, the special nickname is Pyro.

However, this trick only works once per evolution. After you name an Eevee Pyro and evolve it into Flareon, any subsequent Eevees are not guaranteed to be Flareons even if you also name them Pyro.

The Random Evolution Method

If you don’t give your Eevee a particular nickname or fulfill the requirements of one of its other evolved forms, then evolving it with 25 Eevee Candy will result in it becoming one of its three original forms at complete random. Assuming you’re aiming for a Flareon, that’s a 1-in-3 gamble you’ll get what you want instead of ending up with a Jolteon or Vaporeon.

Raid Encounters

Eevee’s evolved forms don’t appear in the wild. As such, aside from Evolution, the only potential way to obtain a Flareon would be to defeat one in a Three-Star Raid, then catch it during the subsequent encounter. Unfortunately, this also has a random element to it, as it means having to wait until Flareon appears in Three-Star Raids, which it currently is not at the time of writing.

On the bright side, if you do luck out and beat a Flareon in a Raid, it’ll probably have better stats than usual. Catching Raid Flareons may net you more powerful ones than evolving them yourself up from an Eevee.
