Pokémon GO Festival of Lights Event Guide

Diwali is a holiday typically celebrated in the middle east that begins this Thursday, November 4th. Colloquially known as the Festival of Lights, it’s an occasion to pray for future prosperity, rid yourself of dark thoughts, and most of all, spread joy with a myriad of colorful lights and fireworks. Whether you live in that neck of the woods or not, there’s always time for another holiday, especially one that yields cool stuff in Pokémon GO. Here’s your guide to the Pokémon GO Festival of Lights event.

The Pokémon GO Festival of Lights Event will begin this Thursday, November 4th, at 10:00 AM local time, and last until November 14th at 8:00 PM local time. While the event is running, certain Pokémon will be occurring more frequently in the wild, and players will reap bonuses related to gifts and friendship.

For the duration of the event, any Pokémon you bring around with you as your buddy will have its friendship level increase at a faster rate. You’ll also be able to open up to 45 gifts from friends per day, with the rewards within increasing. Players living in India will get a special bonus on Sunday, November 7: all catches will yield double candy, and Blitzle and Dedenne will be appearing more often.

Speaking of Dedenne, the Festival of Lights Event will mark the addition of the Electric/Fairy Pokémon to the PokéDex. Pokémon with firework-like themes such as Fire and Electric types will be appearing more frequently in the wild. These Pokémon include:

  • Pikachu (Shiny chance)
  • Magnemite (Shiny chance)
  • Slugma
  • Whismur (Shiny chance)
  • Electrike (Shiny Chance)
  • Blitzle (Shiny Chance)
  • Cottonee
  • Tynamo
  • Fennekin
  • Dedenne
  • Darumaka (Rare encounter, Shiny chance)
  • Litwick (Rare encounter)

Additionally, the following Pokémon can be encountered as rewards for clearing Field Research Tasks:

  • Vulpix (Shiny chance)
  • Magnemite (Shiny chance)
  • Electabuzz (Shiny chance)
  • Magmar (Shiny chance)
  • Electrike (Shiny chance)
  • Blitzle (Shiny chance)
  • Darumaka (Shiny chance)
  • Litleo
  • Dedenne

On the Raiding front, the following Pokémon will be heading up Raids while the Festival of Lights event is running:

Finally, the following Pokémon will be hatching from 7km eggs:

  • Budew (Shiny chance)

If you visit the in-game shop while the event is running, you’ll be able to redeem a free Festival of Lights trainer t-shirt, as well as purchase a variety of Dedenne-themed clothing including hats, bags, and shoes. You can also get Dedenne stickers by spinning PokéStop signs. Don’t forget to look up to the sky as you walk around, as it’ll be filled with fireworks for the first few days of the event.
