I get the distinct impression that whoever came up with the design for Druddigon has a kid, and that kid owns a few tubs of Play-Doh. Someone had a deadline to meet, Junior’s playing in the other room, slap some primary colors together and it’s a dragon. Hey, they can’t all be lookers. Even if it’s doofy looking, Druddigon is still a dragon, and is therefore a credible threat. In this guide, we take a look at Druddigon’s weaknesses and counters in Pokémon GO.
Druddigon is currently one of the Pokémon heading up three star Raids as part of the Power Plant event, which is running until February 1st. Despite what it’s PokéDex entry and cragly appearance may imply, Druddigon isn’t a Ground type, but rather a pure Dragon type, meaning it’s resistances look like this:
- Resistant to: Fire, Water, Grass, Electric
- Weak against: Dragon, Ice, Fairy
Meanwhile, these are the moves Druddigon has in its kit:
Quick Moves
- Bite (Dark)
- Dragon Tail (Dragon)
Main Moves
- Hyper Beam (Normal)
- Night Slash (Dark)
- Dragon Claw (Dragon)
Druddigon Weaknesses and Counters in Pokémon GO
- Shadow Salamence
- Shadow Dragonite
- Rayquaza
- Galarian Darmanitan
- Shadow Mamos
- Shadow Gardevoir
- Salamence
- Shadow Weavile
- Palkia
- Garchomp
Your first assumption may be to go at Druddigon with a strong Dragon type like Salamence, Haxorus, or Dragonite, but this actually isn’t a great idea. Dragons are weak against other Dragons, so while Druddigon would be weak against your Dragon moves, you’d also be weak to his, and with Druddigon’s base attack of 213, any decisive blows will hit like a freight train. As such, the best course of action is to attack with a Dragon type’s other main weakness, Ice.
Ice types aren’t weak against anything in Druddigon’s kit, so as long as they’ve got enough base defense to weather its regular strength, they can go toe-to-toe with it fairly easily. In terms of DPS potential, the best choice would be Galarian Darmanitan, specifically in Zen Forme with Ice Fang and Avalanche. If you want to play a little more defensively, there’s always our good friend Mamoswine, as well as Weavile, whose Dark/Ice typing will make it resistant to both of Druddigon’s Dark moves.
If you’ve got Legendaries on the docket, go for either Black Kyurem or Crowned Sword Zacian. While Kyurem is vulnerable to Dragon moves, its own base attack vastly exceeds Druddigon’s, which would allow it to win a DPS race with doubled-up Dragon moves. Zacian is a Fairy/Steel type, which means it resists every move Druddigon has and can counter with Fairy moves.
