Dedenne’s name is assumed to be a portmanteau of “denki,” which is Japanese for “electricity,” and “antenne.” The little guy’s pretty much what it says on the tin: an electric mouse with antenne in its whiskers. Somehow, that makes it part Fairy type, though I haven’t the foggiest as to how. It is cute, though, and it’s also heading up Raids as part of Pokémon GO’s Festival of Lights event, so what the heck, let’s catch a 5G mouse. Here’s the Pokémon GO Dedenne counters and Raid guide.
Dedenne is an Electric/Fairy type, which means its resistances break down like this:
- Weak against: Poison, Ground
- Resistant to: Fighting, Flying, Bug, Electric, Dark
- Double-Resistant to: Dragon
Meanwhile, Dedenne is packing the following moves in its kit:
- Thunder Shock (Electric)
- Tackle (Normal)
- Discharge (Electric)
- Parabolic Charge (Electric)
- Play Rough (Fairy)

Dedenne’s number of resistances and few weaknesses make it look a bit intimidating on paper, but that Electric/Fairy typing curses it with a very particular kryptonite: Ground types. Not only is Dedenne weak against Ground-type moves, but Ground type Pokémon are resistant to Electric type moves.
Due to its makeup, Dedenne has a natural enemy: Excadrill. Excadrill’s Ground/Steel typing makes it resistant to literally every move in Dedenne’s kit, doubly so against Electric-type moves. All you have to do is pack an Excadrill with doubled-up Ground moves, preferably Mud Slap and Earthquake for highest DPS, and Dedenne can’t even touch you.
If you’re feeling saucy, while not quite as effective, a well-rounded Poison-type can also make quick work of Dedenne. Roserade is the top choice, as its Grass/Poison typing makes it resistant to Electric and Fairy moves, and you can double up with Poison Jab and Sludge Bomb.
Legendaries aren’t really needed for this fight, but if you’re in the mood for overkill, Therian Landorus or Groudon can pound Dedenne into a fine mist without too much effort.
