Almost every Legendary Pokémon is designed to evoke some kind of element, abstract concept, or other primal force. In Darkrai’s case, that abstract concept is nightmares. Specifically, the nightmares it fills its victims’ heads with after lulling them to sleep. Charming. Still, that does make it a perfect Pokémon for the spooky season, which is why it’s currently appearing in Legendary Raids. To ensure you don’t get sucked into your worst nightmare, here are Darkrai’s counters, weaknesses, and moveset in Pokémon GO.
Pokémon GO: Darkrai Counters, Weaknesses, and Moveset
Darkrai Weaknesses and Resistances
Darkrai is, rather fittingly, a pure Dark type, which means its resistances break down like this:
- Weak against: Fighting, Bug, Fairy
- Resistant to: Ghost, Dark
- Double-resistant to: Psychic
Darkrai Moveset
Here are the moves Darkrai is packing in its kit:
Quick Moves
- Feint Attack (Dark)
- Snarl (Dark)
Main Moves
- Dark Pulse (Dark)
- Shadow Ball (Ghost)
- Focus Blast (Fighting)
Darkrai Counters
While Darkrai may seem intimidating, it actually has a fatal weakness: Fighting and Fairy types. As a pure Dark type, not only is it weak against Fighting and Fairy type moves, but its own Dark type moves, which make up the majority of its kit, are generally ineffective against Fighting and Fairy types. All you really need is a sufficiently strong Fighting or Fairy type, preferably with doubled-up moves, and Darkrai will go down like a sack of potatoes.
For regular Pokémon, your ideal pick would be Lucario armed with Counter and Aura Sphere. Conkeldurr and Machamp can also get the job done just fine with doubled-up Fighting moves, though not quite as efficiently as Lucario could. If Legendaries are on the table, Darkrai’s mortal enemy is Crowned Sword Zacian. As a Fairy/Steel type, Crowned Sword Zacian is not only resistant to Dark moves, but a high-DPS kit using Quick Attack and Play Rough ensures a near-constant stream of mostly-super effective damage. It’s pretty much a foregone conclusion.
