Here’s a fun fact about Honchkrow: its name is a pun on “honcho,” meaning a leader or person in charge. In a rare case, that’s a pun that actually crosses language barriers, as the Japanese word “hanchō” also means leader. Ironically, though, Honchkrow’s Japanese name is Donkarasu, which literally means “Don Crow,” as in a mafia don. Shame, they could’ve saved some time and kept the name the same. Anyway, that’s enough trivia, it’s time to bruise some mugs. Here’s the best Honchkrow moveset in Pokémon GO.
Honchkrow is a Dark/Flying Type, which means its resistances break down like this:
- Weak against: Rock, Electric, Ice, Fairy
- Resistant to: Ghost, Grass, Dark
- Double-Resistant to: Ground, Psychic
Four weaknesses isn’t great, but those double-resistances, especially to a Type as potent as Psychic, are definitely a plus. Now we just gotta provide cover.
Pokémon GO Honchkrow Best Moveset
Honchkrow has the following moves in its kit:
Quick Moves
- Peck (Flying)
- Snarl (Dark)
Main Moves
- Dark Pulse (Dark)
- Psychic (Psychic)
- Brave Bird (Flying)
- Sky Attack (Flying)
The unfortunate thing about Honchkrow’s kit is that it doesn’t have any super effective moves against its weaknesses. It’s great against the stuff it’s resistant to, especially Psychic and Dark, but against its weaknesses, it’s kind of dead in the water. As such, the best course of action is to shoot for raw DPS.
For Honchkrow’s Quick Moves, you want Snarl, which has slightly higher DPS between the two Quick Move options. For Main Moves, the move with the best balance between flat damage and energy is Brave Bird, which also provides the added bonus of widening Honchkrow’s Type coverage a bit.
Psychic or Dark Pulse can be switched in if you know ahead of time what you’re fighting, but none of its other moves come within spitting distance of that raw DPS. You can use the combination of Snarl and Brave Bird for both offensive and defensive builds, as they provide the best mix of damage and energy either way.
