How to Register Dialga or Palkia in Sinnoh Pokédex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Y’know, something just occurred to me: how do Pokémon professors actually know when their PokéDexes are complete? Y’know, something just occurred to me: how do Pokémon professors actually know when their PokéDexes are complete? Like, if you haven’t seen a legendary Pokémon that literally nobody else has seen, why does that not count? How much are these people expecting out of literal children? Though, I guess since those children always encounter the legendaries, it’s kind of a moot point. On that subject, though, here’s how to register Dialga or Palkia in the Sinnoh PokéDex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Dialga and Palkia are the mascot legendaries of Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, respectively. As is frequently the case in dual-version Pokémon games, these legendaries will show up at critical story moments for you to encounter, battle, and hopefully catch for yourself. Both of these Pokémon are part of the Sinnoh Dex, which means both must be registered in order to complete the Sinnoh Dex and unlock the National Dex. The rub is that the mascots only appear in their respective games. Dialga doesn’t appear in Shining Pearl, nor does Palkia appear in Brilliant Diamond. Luckily, there is another way to register them to the Dex.

How to Register Dialga or Palkia in Sinnoh PokéDex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

To register Dialga/Palkia in the Sinnoh PokéDex in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

  1. Encounter and defeat/catch your version’s mascot legendary at the Spear Pillar during the story
  2. Go to Celestic Town
  3. Enter the largest building in town and talk to the old lady to get the Dex data

Before you can register the opposite mascot, you’ll first need to register your version’s actual mascot by encountering them at the Spear Pillar during the game’s story. You don’t have to catch them, though I don’t know why you wouldn’t want to.

Afterwards, make your way over to Celestic Town to the east of Eterna City. Find the largest building in town and talk to the old lady inside. She’ll show you a book that contains a picture and information on the opposite mascot legendary, Dialga in Shining Pearl and Palkia in Brilliant Diamond. This counts for the purposes of filling the PokéDex page and unlocking the National Dex, though you will still need to obtain them through a trade or other method to get the full description on the page.
