How to get Onix in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Onix can be found at Oreburgh Mine and has roughly a ten percent chance to spawn there. With a moderately low spawn rate, it may take you a bit of searching to find an Onix. As a Ground-type Pokemon, Onix is immune to Electric-type, and it also has a fifty percent chance of having Sturdy. Sturdy. You can use Super Fang, which is a Normal-type move, to help catch it if you’re having trouble.

You can also find Onix a bit later in the game at Iron Island. There’s a thirty percent chance to find Onix deep inside the cave at this location. That’s not every location, though, and some other locations for Onix include Snowpoint Temple, Stark Mountain, Victory Road, and the Grand Underground.

To evolve Onix into a Steelix, you will need to find and obtain the Metal Coat. Give the Metal Coat to Onix to hold, and trade it with someone to evolve it into a Steelix. After trading the Onix, it will evolve into Steelix in the other player’s inventory, and they can give it back to you at that point.

To trade, you will have to make it past the first Pokemon Gym and go downstairs in any Pokemon Center.
