Pokémon with Flame Body in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Whether you’re breeding shinies or just trying to get the infant form of a particular Pokémon, the process of obtaining and hatching eggs can be a major time sink. I used to just hold my DS and mindlessly rock the D-pad while watching TV when I was a kid. Thankfully, in both the original Gen IV games and the newly-released remakes, there exists a particular Pokémon ability that can expedite this process, at least a little bit. Here are the Pokémon with Flame Body in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Flame Body is an ability endemic to particular Fire type Pokémon. The primary function of Flame Body is adding a chance to burn any opposing Pokémon that attack your Pokémon with physical attacks. In addition to that, though, the passive heat emanated by Pokémon with Flame Body warms eggs in your party, causing them to hatch faster than they normally would. While it’s not a huge boost (and it doesn’t stack, if you were wondering), it’s certainly pleasant to not have to spend as long riding in circles on your bike, so if you’re on an egg-hatching spree, you’d do well to have a Pokémon with Flame Body on hand.

The following Pokémon are capable of having the Flame Body ability:

• Ponyta
• Rapidash
• Magby
• Magmar
• Magmortar
• Slugma
• Magcargo
• Heatran

As with any other ability, there’s no way to guarantee that a Pokémon you catch has a particular one, so all you can really do is keep catching duplicates of one of these Pokémon until you get one with Flame Body.

Incidentally, if all you want is the egg hatching boost, there’s another Fire type ability that provides the same benefit, Magma Armor, which also prevents a Pokémon from being frozen. The Pokémon that can have the Magma Armor ability include:
