Overwatch 2: How to get the most out of Ramattra in battle

Get ready for the new tank.

Overwatch 2 Season 2 is coming and one of the main things that caught everyone’s attention is the new tank hero, Ramattra. Since Overwatch has made the update in their role-playing matches and allowed for only one tank to be in the game, the focus on this role was raised. The choice of which tank will be played on which map and in what team composition is more important than ever. So, can Ramattra contest the other tank heroes played in the current meta and take their place? Let’s see.

Ramattra’s Abilities

First of all, let’s introduce the basics. Ramattra has 450HP and a ranged staff weapon called Void Accelerator that rapidly fires 100 orbs before it requires a reload. The weapon can offer solid suppressive damage and can prove deadly if you get a couple of headshots with it.

When talking about abilities, Ramattra has four in total – three regular ones plus the ultimate:

Void barrier: a damage-soaking barrier of 1000 hp that lasts 4 seconds. You can place it anywhere you’d like, even far ahead of you. Since it’s so short-lived, it’s best used in choke points where you expect the enemy team to pound you with a lot of missile damage. Alternatively, you can use it to separate the back row of enemy healers from their tank and DPS and prevent any healing in clutch moments.

Nemesis form: Switches your staff for your fists, and gives you additional 150 armor for 8 seconds. You now hit with a ranged fist attack that reaches approximately 11m / 36 feet in front of you. Nemesis form also allows you to toggle block mode with your right click and that’s where the true tank emerges. You can’t attack while in a block but you can soak up a lot of damage, so if you see powerful spells such as Pharah ultimate coming make sure to put yourself in front of it with a block.

Ravenous Vortex: You create a vortex on the ground that slows and damages enemies in an area. However, the main benefit of Ravenous Vortex is that it brings down flying enemies, so it’s a perfect tool to counter those Mercy-Pharah combos that can be annoying.

Annihilation (Ultimate): Puts you in a permanent Nemesis form and creates an energy swarm around you. That swarm will automatically connect to a nearby enemy and damage them for 40 damage per second (like Moira’s right-click). Now, the trick is to always have an enemy in your close range. Annihilation will stop if you haven’t connected to an enemy for longer than 4 seconds, but if you continually find enemies who will be attacked by your swarm your ultimate can last for a long time. During that time you can use all the benefits Nemesis form brings so punch away or block as much as you want!

Ramattra in a team

Due to Ramattra’s natural low movement speed (that’s even lower while in a block in Nemesis form), you would like to have someone like Lucio in your team to boost you up. If you want to poke at your enemies the Void Accelerator is an awesome solution, but when it’s time for you to rush to that payload or point you will be a sitting duck for the enemy’s damage dealers. That’s where Lucio comes in, as he can help you to run towards the point and position yourself faster.

Ravenous Vortex is probably one of your most important spells since it gives that crowd control that every damage hero loves. Slowing enemies in a small circle and bringing flying ones down along the way will benefit someone like Junkrat or Pharah who can do AoE damage to those enemies that can’t run.

One of your biggest counters in the enemy team will be Roadhog and Reaper, so look out for them! They have high burst damage for close range and can melt your HP without blinking.
